Event Report - The qualifying rounds (1st to 4th round) have been competed on 15th of January at the Newport Leisure Centre, UK. The other 35 players will joined the final stage from the 19th of February at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Malta. Ken Doherty claimed his first title since becoming World Chmapion in 1997
after a comfortable victory over Mark J Williams. The Irishman took a 5-3 lead at the interval before he grabbed all the four frames they played in the evening session to win 9-3. It is his third rannking title and he will receive the first prize of 50,000 pounds. Doherty is hoping that the victory had made up for his recent disappointment. more... |

Mark J Williams ended the run of Hong Kong star Macro fu in today's
semi-final and chasing for the world No.1 title of next season. Ken Doherty overcame a thrilling fightback from Stephen Lee and reach his first ranking event final of the season. |

Mark Williams brought a smile to manager Ian Doyle's face after reaching the semi-finals. A 5-1 victory over John Parrott means the semi-final places will all be filled by players from Doyle's stable. Stephen Hendry will now fly out to Bangkok for next week's Thailand Masters after a shock defeat. The world champion led Stephen Lee 2-0 before losing five frames in a row. |

Hong Kong star Macro Fu ended John Higgins' bid for the third major title of
the season by a 5-3 victory to secure himself a place in the semi-finals. Ken Doherty also reached the last four. He beated Ronnie O'Sullivan 5-2, his first ranking win over the world No.4 in six years. |

Ronnie O'Sullivan fired up highly today including a break of 142, the
highest break so far in the tournament, to see off Jimmy White. Macro Fu and Stephen Lee both won their matches in a tense battle through the decider, while the three world No.1 spot contenders all safely found their way to the quarter-finals stage though some of them had resistances. |

Fifth Rounds: Despite an interruption by a stray cat, Mark Williams still managed to find his way through to beat the local boy Joe Grech. Stephen Hendry made a bright start here with a whitewash over Adrian Gunnell while the other Stephen struggled. Stephen Lee narrowly won the match over David Gray. Macro Fu won his first ever match here by beating Peter Ebdon 5-3. Sixth Rounds: Two qualifiers couldn't step any further, they lost to John Parrott and Ken Doherty respectively. |

Steve Davis fired up today after recent poor form, he whitewashed Stuart Pettman. While new B&H Master Matthew Stephens beat Michael Holt 5-3 despite pain from a wisdom tooth. Besides, compared to John Higgins and Alan McManus' comfortable win, Ronnie O'Sullivan had to win the last two frames to go through by 5-4. |

Jimmy White, who used to lose his match by oppoenet's fightback, learnt and showed the
skill today by winning the last 5 frames to beat Irish Stephen O'Connor 5-4. There were some close matches today, but only Fergal O'Brien escaped from the swamp. The other two seeds Mark King and Anthony Hamilton were sunk with the score 5-4. Ken Doherty and John Parrott were safely through to the next round. |

Wild card Joe Grech knocked out Nick Dyson marginally though Dyson made breaks of 112, 108, 107, and 96. However the other two Malta hopes Tony Drago and Alex Borg all lost their first match of the tournamnet. |
