Q: What sort of a year have you had since becoming world champion? A: I've really enjoyed it but it's been a lot more hectic. I haven't felt any different because I'm the champion. I haven't felt any extra pressure. Q: Are you looking forward to returning to the Crucible? A: I can't wait to walk through that red curtain to be honest. There's something special about the place that gives you a buzz. It should be great. Q: How would you describe your form this season and at the moment? A: I started off a bit slow but I've won a few tournaments and my form is very good just now. There are still parts of my game that could improve. Q: On a scale of 1-10 how high would you rate your chance of winning the world title again? A: If I was being big-headed I'd say 10 but I'm not so I'll say 9. I'm feeling pretty good about the way I'm playing to be honest. Q: If you don't win the title again, who will? A: If I have to stick my neck out I'd go for Mark Williams or Stephen Hendry. Ronnie O'Sullivan could do it but he's not had the easiest of seasons. Q: Is it too late for Jimmy White to become world champion? A: It's not impossible but it may be too late for him. Some players don't get one chance but Jimmy's had six. I think it's passed him by. Q: Who do you rate as the best player in the game? A: Stephen Hendry. Q: If you weren't a snooker player, what would you being doing now? A: It's hard to imagine but I was quite good academically. I'd probably be working in a bank or something. Q: How do you relax away from snooker? A: Going to watch Celtic, having a pint with the lads, going to the pictures with my girlfriend - and playing golf. Q: You're always asked about snooker, obviously, but what about other things? For instance, does the situation in Kosovo worry you? A: Yes it does. It's upsetting to see it on the news and in the papers and the threat from Russia is something I think we're all aware of. Q: On a lighter note, have you ever been chased by cows? A: Er...no, I can't say I have. I've been chased by a few friendly fans wanting autographs, but not cows! Q: How will you be celebrating the Millennium? A: I haven't got anything extravagant planned at the moment. I don't think I'll be going out to an organised dinner or party. It'll be too manic. I'll spend it with my family and friends in Scotland. Q: As a Scot, who do you think should be England football manager? A: Kevin Keegan - as third choice after Alex Ferguson and George Graham. No, seriously, Keegan's right for the job. - interview by Lee Coleman - |
