Fu, one of four wild card selecting to the 12-man event, defeated Irish and Welsh Open Champion Mark Williams 5-3. He said: "It was a good result because when you're playing for charity there's always going to be extra pressure. "I took a few days off after getting home from playing in the Welsh Open last month because it was Chinese New Year but I've been practising hard.

78-51 (78/51), 75-16, 57-0, 0-79, 62-63 (63), 38-72 (72), 85-6, 15-78 (74), 56-62 (62) Jimmy White shocked former world champion John Parrott by snatching the penultimate first round match 5-4 on the black. The six-times World Championship runner-up, who also won frame five on the black, now meets Stephen Hendry. White, who trailed 3-0, said: "John is so hard to beat and so solid. This is a great result. "I was driven insane by Peter Ebdon in Scotland last week because he was playing so slowly. Ilost the plot.

94-21, 59-44, 65-39, 79-32 (79), 76-28 John Higgins survived an off-table scare to whitewash Steve Davis 5-0 and reach the semi-finals. The world number one turned in a solid display to get past Davis after a strange night in his hotel. "I was going to my rom and saw a laundry door open right in front of me and then heard footsteps behind me but there was nobody there," he said. Reflecting on his victory he added: "I'm very pleased to beat Steve and to win 5-0 is a good confidence booster."
| K Doherty (Ire) | 5-4 | M Fu (HK) |

61-58, 61-0 (60), 73-5 (55), 0-77, 15-103 (102), 1-70 (68), 1-59, 89-17 (67), 60-7 Ken Doherty had to come from behind before beating Macro Fu 5-4 to secure a place in the semi-finals. The Irishman raced into a 3-0 lead but Fu realed off four consecutive frames and was poised for victory before Doherty regained his composure. Doherty said: "It's great to be in another semi but it's time I won a tournament again." "I'm sure a lot of other players would settle for getting this far but that's not the way I see it."
| R O'Sullivan (Eng) | 5-2 | A McManus (Sco) |
|
88-4 (88), 72-20, 2-65, 69-0, 1-57, 75-21, 91-0 Ronnie O'Sullivan overcame playing with a bandaged right hand to see off Alan McManus for a place in the semis. O'Sullivan, who broke a finger on the eve of the tournament, won 5-2 and said: "It's still a hindrance and I can't play the shots I want to play." "It's hard to get my hand fully round the cue and playing power shots is difficult. It's frustrating because I've never suffered a break before." "I've been told it could be 10 days before the bandage can come off."
| S Hendry (Sco) | 2-5 | J White (Eng) |
|
57-31, 62-7 (52), 8-72, 0-77 (77), 0-97 (97), 25-73, 42-69 (65) Stephen Hendry suffered again at the hands of Jimmy White after a blew-par display in the quarter-finals. Hendry could not reproduce the form he showed in Aberdeen last week that brought him the Scottish Open title. White came from 2-0 down to seal a 5-2 victory and now meets Ronnie O'Sullivan for a place in Sunday's final. Hendry said: "I made two or three elementary mistakes which cost me. The problem was I wasn't nervous or buzzed up for it like I should have been.

"Most of the other players always have their families around and it's a good thing. I've been practising really hard since Christmas. Now I'm reaping the benefits of that pratice."

It was a repeat of the result in the semi-final 12 months ago when Higgins beat Doherty by an identical score. The Scot said: "Every tournament I enter these days is important to me. I'm feeling great about my game.
