The world number one turned in a solid display to get past Davis after a strange night in his hotel. "I was going to my rom and saw a laundry door open right in front of me and then heard footsteps behind me but there was nobody there," he said. Reflecting on his victory he added: "I'm very pleased to beat Steve and to win 5-0 is a good confidence booster."

61-58, 61-0 (60), 73-5 (55), 0-77, 15-103 (102), 1-70 (68), 1-59, 89-17 (67), 60-7 Ken Doherty had to come from behind before beating Macro Fu 5-4 to secure a place in the semi-finals. The Irishman raced into a 3-0 lead but Fu realed off four consecutive frames and was poised for victory before Doherty regained his composure. Doherty said: "It's great to be in another semi but it's time I won a tournament again." "I'm sure a lot of other players would settle for getting this far but that's not the way I see it."

88-4 (88), 72-20, 2-65, 69-0, 1-57, 75-21, 91-0 Ronnie O'Sullivan overcame playing with a bandaged right hand to see off Alan McManus for a place in the semis. O'Sullivan, who broke a finger on the eve of the tournament, won 5-2 and said: "It's still a hindrance and I can't play the shots I want to play." "It's hard to get my hand fully round the cue and playing power shots is difficult. It's frustrating because I've never suffered a break before." "I've been told it could be 10 days before the bandage can come off."

57-31, 62-7 (52), 8-72, 0-77 (77), 0-97 (97), 25-73, 42-69 (65) Stephen Hendry suffered again at the hands of Jimmy White after a blew-par display in the quarter-finals. Hendry could not reproduce the form he showed in Aberdeen last week that brought him the Scottish Open title. White came from 2-0 down to seal a 5-2 victory and now meets Ronnie O'Sullivan for a place in Sunday's final. Hendry said: "I made two or three elementary mistakes which cost me. The problem was I wasn't nervous or buzzed up for it like I should have been.

O'Sullivan recovered from a 4-3 deficit and put his form down his mother Maria. He said: "My dad told me that mum was coming here with me, no ifs, buts or maybes, and now I'm glad she did." "Most of the other players always have their families around and it's a good thing. I've been practising really hard since Christmas. Now I'm reaping the benefits of that pratice."

Higgins set up a best of 17 frame final showdown with Ronnie O'Sullivan, his victim with the trophy on the line last season, by edging Doherty 6-5. It was a repeat of the result in the semi-final 12 months ago when Higgins beat Doherty by an identical score. The Scot said: "Every tournament I enter these days is important to me. I'm feeling great about my game.

Higgins repeated his triumph over O'Sullivan of 12 months ago to earn 100,000 pounds for the charity, challenging Childhood Cancer and Leukaerria. O'Sullivan, the 1997 beaten finalist and 1996 Champion, still earned 35,000 pounds for his charity, Contact a Family. Higgins said: "I feel very honoured that I won this money for the charity."
