Favorite SNMFC Game: Although the “Ice Bowl” will always have a special bruise on my right knee, err…place in my heart…I am most thankful for the timeless classic that is Jiblet Jam.
Favorite SNMFC Moment: Monday, November 4, 1996. In the long and storied history of the SNMFC there has been only one occasion where the players association convened for a special edition of “Monday Night Football.” Playing under the headlights of the Paneling Mobile and the Marks-Mobile, the teams battled late into the night before Election Day on the not-yet-frozen tundra of Hill & Plain School. Fumbles and crazy plays were nothing new to the SNMFC, yet one play that night defied the odds as nearly every single player on both sides of scrimmage touched the ball on a single play that began as a running play that led to a lateral, which led to a fumble naturally, that was subsequently recovered by the defense. The defense lateraled several times, fumbled again, lateraled several times by the offense, fumbled back to the defense, lateraled some more, fumbled back to the offense, fumbled again to the defense, and once more back to the offense finally leading to an offensive touchdown. The skinny: six changes of possession, laterals too numerous to count, all resulting in a simple running touchdown.
Scouting Report: Traditionally lined up at automatic offense to offset the odd numbered matchups in SNMFC contests, Brian Durand relies on his receiving and throwing prowess, and has been known to both run and throw the deep routes to the benefit of either side. While much of the SNMFC has added substantial pounds in recent years, Durand has virtually maintained his rookie season playing weight, allowing him to keep all of his speed. After leaving New Milford to attend Penn State University, Durand honed his skills competing in intramural leagues in several sports. Since his graduation in 2001, he has continued his off-season training regimen directing young athletes at a Sports Camp in 2002. Although known primarily as an offensive player, Durand’s underrated defensive toughness can be credited to two years as a Public School Teacher. - J. Hoose
