| Well, to begin my journey I headed off to Value City with Sakaki, but I really didn't find too much for me to wear. I never knew it would be that hard to find a plain white dress. So my next stop was trusty ol' Goodwill, and I found a really good slip/nightgown dress to wear. The only problem was that it was a little tight, but I figured it would be fine so I bought it. A couple of days later I took it over to Sakaki's house, but he didn't really say too much; he agreed that it was a little tight. Then I took a really long break on costume -- I went through depressions, tantrums, and tumors. Then I finally realised that I really wanted to go to ACen. So on a later trip to Goodwill, I ended up finding the most perfect long white dress to wear!! It wasn't too tight or anything!! So about a week before ACen, I went to JoAnn fabrics to buy the materials I needed to make the wings. Luckily, I work at JoAnn's so I recieved a bit of an employee discount!! ^_^ I only ended up spending around $16. Here are the following materials that I bought for wings: 2 yards of yellow netting, 3 yards of lacy ribbon, 2 yards of silky ribbon, a packet of loose feathers, a feather boa, and yellow golden RIT dye. To make the wings, I formed the shape of wings using two coat hangers. Then I mixed a bucket of RIT dye, put the packet of feathers and the boa in the dye, and let them soak for about a half an hour. While I was waiting for the feathers to finish soaking, I applied the netting to the coat hangers with a hot glue gun. After I finished that, I laid the feathers flat to let them dry, and I went to sleep. The next day, I got home and saw that my feathers had dried beautifully! I was so excited!! So then I hot glued the feather boa around the outside of the coat hangers and filled in spaces with loose feathers. I took scraps of netting and filled the wings with them to give them extra texture. To attach them, I took the silky ribbon and held the wings together so they couldn't flap around too much. I then tied the ribbon around each wing so that I could put the wings on like you would put on a jacket; this was my grandmother's idea, and it worked rather well. After that, the costume was finally done!! I was so excited; I tried it on, and it looked very cute!!! |
