Port top turret shot

This shot was taken standing in the top turrent of B-17G #44-83575 looking out over the port wing. We were at about 1200 feet over Puget Sound near Seattle, Washington. The top turret was fixed on our flight (we couldn't rotate it). I don't know if the turret on #44-83575 is fully operational or not.... It would have been fun to move the turret around taking "leads" on imaginary Luftwaffe fighters coming in for the kill! Click here to see more shots from the top turret of B-17G #44-83575

Rear hatch shot

This shot was taken standing in the rear upper hatch facing (obviously) rearward. The hatch cover was removed during our flight. I was warned to remove the ball cap I was wearing before I stuck my head up out of the hatch into the 175mph cruising speed wind! Taken shortly after departing Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington, we're about 4 miles NE of the field at around 1000 feet, just approaching the University of Washington campus area.
Unfortunately, the shot I have of me sitting in the left (pilot's) seat of #44-83575 did not turn out very good.... It was the last frame of film on the roll. If you know what the inside of a B-17 cockpit looks like and you know what I look like, you can make out what's in the shot but if you don't know the above, it just looks like a dark, half-exposed blurr.... Rats! Well, the memory of piloting this B-17 (albeit briefly; for about 15 minutes) will last my entire lifetime. After all, it's the thought/memory that counts, right?
