So there's a new puppy in the family!



A couple of weeks ago one of my patients on my internal medicine rotation was a stray pitbull mix puppy a Good Samaratin found on the side of the road and brought to the vet school. The puppy was having difficulty breathing due to a diaphragmatic hernia, which is when the separation between the thorax and abdomen is broken and the puppy's guts move up into the chest and squash the lungs. I spent a lot of time with the puppy caring for him until he could have surgery, and I ended up getting really attached. I fought the urge to offer to take the puppy home with me for several days, and when I finally gave in and decided to take him, another student had agreed to adopt him.



But I had been bitten by the puppy bug bad, so I started looking at available puppies at our local rescue organizations. Saturday Shane and I went to the CAAWS building and got Caboose! Caboose's approximated birthday is 05-30-2008, and he just showed up on someone's doorstep one day. He basically looks like a yellow labrador retriever puppy and is super cute!



I'm so excited to have a puppy so that I have to get involved in the doggy stuff world again!
