Rally for Fun (Entry for May 29, 2006)

Today was the last day of the obedience trial, and Red got to do another Rally Novice course for fun.  I thought that Red did much better today.  He was watching me more, heeling better, and responding to commands faster.  But our score did not reflect that.  Red is a big dog who walks really fast.  So to the faster I walk while heeling, the more natural it is for Red to heel.  Plus, when we move quickly, Red doesn't get bored and distracted.  So I was walking very quickly the whole way through the course.  When we got to the Fast sign, I sped up as much as I could.  But the judge did not think that it was a significant increase in speed, so he called it incorrectly performing the station.  We lost 10 points at both of the fast signs.   Red's official score was a 77, but in my mind it was a 97.  It was still a Q, and we got 4th place again.  Now I know, next time I do Rally with Red, I have to seriously run on the Fasts.
