Practice and a Picnic (Entry for October 22, 2006)
OK, let's see, what has happened since the last time I posted.

I took Red out to obedience Thursday and practiced with the CGC test class and did some stays.

Friday was the vet school Fall Family Picnic, and I brought Red. It was great socialization for him, since he was surrounded by tons of people and dogs and food. Red stayed right by me and never really went out to the end of his leash, even when we walked past groups of people sitting around with plates of food on the ground. I got a bunch of compliments on how well behaved my dog was. One thing I take for granted is the way dog people keep their dogs under control. Dog people never let their dogs run up into the face of another dog. Vet students obviously don't get this. At one point I was heeling Red through a crowd, and a nasty little french bulldog thing ran in front of Red and snapped at him. Red never left heel position, he just looked at the dog and then looked up at me for the treat he knew was coming. What a good boy.

I took the dogs out to the agility field today since I'm going to abandoning them and practically living at the school next week. We've got an Endocrine and Metabolic diseases exam, our Cardiology final, and a Parasitology exam. So I worked the dogs today so I'll hopefully feel slightly lees guilty. Red worked on his dogwalk contact, weave pole entries, and 180 degree turns, because those are for some reason very demotivating for him. Sniper worked on an independent teeter and tunnel-dogwalk flips. They were both flying around the course, probably because of the comparatively cold weather we've been having lately.

Red is entered in an obedience practice match in Metairie next Saturday, so we'll see how he does.
