LCCOC Obedience Fun Match (Entry for September 11, 2006)
Yesterday was the LCCOC Obedience Fun Match, and Red was entered in Novice. We ran through all of the Novice exercises, and then, since I had time left, Tracey helped me troubleshoot some heeling handling errors. Red did very well, probably because he knew I had cheese in my pocket. Then we did stays. Red was between a papillion and a golden who kept breaking the stays, so we had some pretty good distractions. He looked a little nervous on the sit stay, but not terrified like he gets at obedience trials sometimes. Then when I went to leave on the down stay, Red got up and started following me. I spun around, grabbed his collar, and plopped him back in the line of staying dogs. I told him to stay and walked away, and he stayed for the rest of the 3 minutes. I am actually glad he broke because it gave me a chance to correct him, since you can't do that at a real obedience trial and he never breaks stays anywhere else. I also got to watch Nakita and Shelby, two of Tracey's dogs, do some Utility work. It was very impressive!
No work with the boys today, it is wet and nasty outside. 2006-09-11 22:48:59 GMT
