Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Right now PS2 games are no slouch when it comes to new, top quality titles.  There are so many games coming out spanning every genre.  The PS2 has action games coming out of it's ears with the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry, and Crash Bandicoot 4.  The PS2 has some cool new fighting games as well: Tekken 4, Virtua Fighter 4... my point is this is one helluva time to be a Playstation gamer.  And the survival horror genre is no slouch either; truly lead by Capcom's new(or old, if you're
a Dreamcast gamer)Resident Evil Code Veronica X.  Now let's get down to buisines.

Gameplay
While there is much speculation about the game's individuality among Resident Evil titles, I would say that no, not much has changed as far as gameplay.  Some people(websites, magazines, etc.) will give tons of reasons why they think it is toomuch the same as the previous resident evils.  I, however, think that you can't change it too much from the other resident evils and still have a good survival horror game.  The gameplay is classic resident evil: run around opening doors, solving puzzles, finding keys, getting scared, and of course, blasting a lot of zombies along the way.  Sound familiar?
CVX is chock full of enemies, and not just zombies.  One thing you'll notice partly through the game is the terrifically annoying bandersnatchers, who can stretch out their arms incredibly far.  And remember those giant worms?  Well, youguessed it, this game has 'em.  CVX has a lot of new things added to it to kind of spice it up.  You'll notice the cool heart beateffect that you'll hear when opening a door that you know has something important in it(I half expected a zombie to pop out at you while you were opening the door.  Remember Resident Evil 2?).  As well as the cool Matrix-like
effect when Steve pops out of the window with two gold lugers, saving you from a bandersnatcher.  Needless to say that it actually has changed from the previous Resident Evils.  And for the best.

Atmosphere/Shock Value
Resident Evil games never fail to impress as far as shock value goes.  While not quite as scary as some of the other Resident Evil games, CVX provides some pretty frightening moments and has some pretty cool tricks to make you scared.  As far as atmosphere goes it's not bad.  The main thing that gives a game its atmosphere(and always has been a trademark of resident evil games) is good "set the mood" music.  CVX has some alright music.  It always has some nice scary music when an enemy jumps out at you(the bandersnatchers even have their own phsycho-like theme song), but the general game suffers from little, good in-game music(most of the outdoor locations have no music at all).  I found myself missing the nice "raccoon city music" found in Resident Evil 3.  But what music there is is usually good and you'll still be frightened sometimes as far as shock value goes.  Trust me.
