HOUSE method

This method is from my experience at playing paintball for a number of years and has helped me to remember my purpose when contacting with members of the opposing team. This method takes time so is usually best to use during large scenario games. A simple explanation will help you know what I am talking about. When using this method the meaning of HOUSE is a group or team of opposing players. Other words to know and their meanings include the following:

Front Door: The front player(s) or scout(s) playing out front. It can mean more than one depending on the aggressiveness of the team and players.

House: The main body of the group or team.

Back Door: The back player {either rear security or slowest player(s)}

So you only need to remember three words (front door, house, back door) for the basic method. I find that simplicity is best and in the mist of a game there is no need to break out the slide rulers or figure out complicated systems. But if you want to expand this method here are some other words:

Other words to know:

Screen Door: A player or players that are following up the House but are so far back to not be considered part of the house. You will see more of this in scenario games where eliminated players are let back on the field.

Breaking into the House: This is where you elimiated the back door or screen door and become part of the group.

Friendly Neighbor: After you join an opposing group and moving with them letting them think you are a member (think "big happy family").

How does the HOUSE method work?

So you have found a great "sniper" position on the field and are awaiting the opposing team, now what? Time to start thinking of the HOUSE method and the first thing you see coming at you will usually be the Front Door. (It is possible for the House to show up if no players are out front).

The Front Door (includes front players or scouts) will be looking hard for you and it is with them that you will need to pass the test, or more accurately, to let them pass. What!, through your hidden position and only yards away is your passing target and such an easy shot....just simply squeeze the trigger and ..... STOP!... Hold that shot!!!! You may get one or two of the Front Door players but here comes the House and as they say in Las Vegas.... never bet against the house!!! Let them pass on by for you have bigger targets on the way.

The House (or Main Force) will be following the Front Door and its distance will depend on things such as aggressiveness of the players, the field layout, weather, etc. Now your talking, with all these targets how can I miss.... STOP! Again remember what they say "Don't bet against the house!" for the main fire power is with the House and even though you may get one or two your main objective is to break into the house (you will know what I mean later). Exception: If you are playing in a scenario game and the target (General, Medic, etc) is with the House and worth points for your team then go for it and light them up. But now as the House gets close they do look formable and the only defense you have is your cover so stay still and enjoy the sight... but remember that the house feels secure that the Front Door has not found anybody so they are not looking too hard nearby.... for the House is concentrating on what is going on up front with the Front Door. You may say that the House is near sighted and this you will take advantage of by sticking to your cover and letting the House pass on by your position.

Ok, great... I let a great number of targets go by me, now what?....

The Back Door is your main target and the reason is two fold, first, you want to get behind the house for this will give you many options, and second, if the house (unfortunally) finds out that the Back Door is taken out will cause it much confusion. Effects will be the total retreat of the house (or in your case a full assault!), deployment of the house for action (which severily slows its movement), or in rare cases even dispersal (panic). Better would be to let the Back Door pass by your position before elimination but check to see if the House heard your shot but best would be if any shooting is happening nearby to hide your shot. With the Back Door eliminated you now have the keys to the house for they are now occupied to the front and you are now free to decide your actions.

Warning: When taking out the Back Door watch out for {for which I call} the Screen Door. These players are so far back (due to being very slow, out of position, or in scenario games just been resurrected) that they are not part of the house yet but can affect your game (by shooting at you!).

Ok, the Back Door is eliminated and no Screen Doors around so now what? Remember what I said earlier about Breaking into the House. Now is the time you leave your position and advance with the opposition. Ya, sounds scary but if you do this right, besides being exciting you can really screw up the House and eliminate the players at your leisure.

This technique of joining the group is called Friendly Neighbor. This is pretty easy with most games using one arm band. When you join the group you need to hid your arm band from the other players and this can easly be done by keeping your arm in nearby bushes or behind a tree. Much harder will be if armbands on both arms are used or different uniforms are being used.

As you move with the group keep an eye toward the rear for Back Doors or Screen Doors for others may be interested in joining. If a player who is part of the House looks back towards you, don't get nervous and start shooting. If you are hidding your arm band right he will think you are part of the House but if you are the nervous type just point in a direction (not with your banded arm for things will really get exciting!) and say somthing like "I heard shooting in that direction". If the player had any questions about who you are this should change the subject.

As you play you will get a feel on how other people play and their reactions on the field. Your faith in camoflage will also grow as you see its effects on other players. No, just wearing camo will make you the invisible man but how its works will greatly improve your odds on being seen. Remember the camo has an on/off button. If you do not move, its on, but if you move it's off, it's that easy. I have had my friend just sitting against a tree not intending to hid and had a squad of players walk within thirty feet of him without being noticed! More to follow...
