'Just a few of my favorite books'

"Great books about the Vietnam War are my passion. I have read so many that I stopped counting. The books written by the men who were there are each a valuable piece of history. I am sincerely impressed with the writing talent of these men that were also great Marines and Soldiers.
I have at least 40 favorites, the following are just a few of those; listed to give recognition and respect for the Authors who wrote them and to encourage you to read them and other books about the Vietnam War...As books continue to be written My Favorites list grows. I would appreciate if the Veterans visiting this web-site would send in the names of their favorite books about the Vietnam War. Positive book reviews are also welcome!
Something has to be said here about Col. David Hackworth and his book "
About Face". Hackworths service includes Korea and his book is a very honest telling of his experiences in these two wars. As a leader of Soldiers Hackworth writes of Vietnam in a way that answers alot of questions."

'The Things They Carried' ....by Tim O'Brien

"If you enjoy great writings as much as I do, this is an outstanding piece. It is not a time-line based writing of combat. It is a collection of the most gripping and forthright thoughts, feelings and perceptions intertwined with combat; the characters fictional. A huge number of books about the war are worthy of the magnitude of the combat experience and I dislike naming a favorite but it would be unfair to Tim O'Brien and his book '
The Things They Carried' if I did not say "this book is the most stunning literary piece I have read, about any subject."
