Cpl. Izzy Barlas  and Marines of The Silent Drill Plt.

'11 March 2000, seven Active Duty Marines stand together with one of their Marine Corps Great Combat Marines Cpl. Izzy Barlas'.

'Izzy Barlas served his Country and Corps in such campaigns as
Guadalcanal, the Landing on Bougainville, then the landing on Guam 21 July 1944, and...
Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 with the 19th Marines 3rd Marine Division.  Barlas was the first Marine down the volcano of Suribachi.'

'Few Marines were tested the way Cpl. Izzy Barlas was, fighting in four major campaigns, each one a  Historical Victory for the United States Marine Corps.  These Victories did not come without tremendous challenges and sacrifices for the Combat Marines who fought them.  We are proud to recognize this Outstanding Marine who served in all four of them.'
