Eric Schneider and I resting and drying off along Catherine's Run in White Township. We were all at least a little wet from the waters inside the tunnel.
Here Derek Baker Helps Jenna Marques after slippin into the cold waters of Catherines Run, a creek that runs in and around the Manunka Chunk tunnel. This incident added to Jenna's discomfort for the remainder of the hike.
Also at the furniture in Sarepta, we see Jenna, me, Eric, and Andrew, who was unusually quiet. He was probably nervous about losing his Star Trek com badge, which he had already lost once in Delaware.
These benches and old pieces of furniture were located along the railbed in Sarepta. This is also where Shayne stuck all of his knives into the table.
Above we see the crew crossing the road on the border of Oxford Township. Everybody was pretty tired by this point. Jenna had fallen asleep at Pequest, and even the venerable Shayne was asking me "How much farther?"
There's the crew taking in some much needed nourishment at the Busy Bee in Oxford. There is only about five miles left of the hike at this point.
Above and to the left: These scenes of the Van Nest Gap Tunnel's( better known as the Oxford Tunnel) south portal are dark, showing that it is getting late. We did not walk through the tunnel for this first hike due to the temperature. We instead opted to walk route 31 for a short distance.
To the right: Here are Shayne, Derek, and Conrad entering the borough of Washington along the railbed near Warren Hills High School. Shayne's "Derail" sign and large tow chains he picked up along the way are visible here. This is the point on the Portland hike that you feel as if your feet are about to fall off. Fortunitely this is only about two miles from the ending point.
