Ayame- Ayame was the last student chosen by Shiunsai. She is a gifted student blessed with raw talent, but she has never developed a good work ethic. She does hate to lose, however, especially to boys. If she is beaten by one of them, she will often study new techniques on her own, in secret. Unfortunately, this is also typical of her personality: although she is interested in learning about new techniques, she does not care to go through the rigorous training required to thoroughly master a given technique. Her curiosity will eventually lead her into trouble down the road. |

Rikimaru- Having grown up entirely in the village where he studies the way of the ninja, Rikimaru knows little of the outside world. A dedicated student, he works constantly to improve his techniques. His weakness is his overconfidence: he believes that he is already good enough to beat any opponent. His misplaced self-confidence will earn him many painful experiences once he finally does leave his village, but those experiences will also be the source of great mental and spiritual growth. |

Tatsumaru- Tatsumaru is the senior of the three students. He favors using his bare hands and feet over other weapons. Having trained longer than Ayame and Rikimaru, his combat skills are proportionally greater. His judgement and composure are also superior. Tatsumaru has greatly influenced Rikimaru, who strives to be just like him.
He is not without his faults, however. A strong, subconcious self-destructive tendency often leads him to overextend himself. His highly developed sense of obligation and his notion of responsibility as a ninja can lead him into regrettable situations. |
