Electronic
Music Production
In 1983, a world-wide communication standard to inter-connect
different manufacturers' equipments such as synthesizers
and electronic pianos were introduced. This communications
protocol was named MIDI
(Musical Instrument Digital Interface).
Under this technology, a new device was developed. This
device can record musical performances from an electronic
musical instrument. Since, it is not the sound, but the
musical data being recorded, it offers the following advantages.
The tempo can be changed without affecting the pitch. The
pitch can be changed withoud affecting the tempo. Note timing
can be corrected automatically, sections (or all of the
data) can be copied without having to play it again.
This type of device is now popularly known as a "Sequencer".
