The Legend Of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda series has been around for around for about 17 years now. In it's 17 year run it has spawned 12 games, a television show based on the games, action figures, and t-shirts. The game series itself is mainly about a boy named Link who is destined for greatness and must rescue the Princess Zelda.

The Legend Behind The Game

It all started in 1986 when Nintendo released a game called "The Legend of Zelda". The story was a simple one, bad guy kidnaps princess, hero beats bad guy and saves princess. But there is much more to it than just that. There is a legend about an ultimate power called the Triforce, shown here:

The trifroce has 3 different parts. The top triangle is the Triforce of Power, the bottom left triangle is the Triforce of Wisdom, and the bottom right triangle is the Triforce of Courage. The person who obtains all three pieces and completes and triforce will be granted a wish. Ganon, who is the villain of the series, wants to corrupt the land with darkness where he can rule for all eternity. Link and the Princess Zelda want to keep the peace that thrives in their land. Which is where the quest for the triforce begins.

Link's New Twist

1998 saw the release of the highly anticipated game, "The Legend Of Zelda:Ocarina Of Time". Before the game was even released it set the Guiness World Record for most pre-orders of any game, ever, and it still holds this record. This game took full advantage of the Nintendo 64's new graphic capabilities. What made this game so exciting was that you had the ability to flow through time. It's a very complicated story so i'll save time and stay with the basics. The land of Hyrule is in jeapordy because Ganon is planning to once again try and gain the triforce for his wish. In order for Link to stop him he must travel through time in order to gain strength so he'll be able to stop Ganon. The key to that is the Ocarina of Time. It's basically just a blue ocarina that has the power to control time, the weather etc..This is certainly a series that will never die.

New Graphic Design

There's been a lot of things said about the new cartoony like graphics of the latest installment of the Zelda series, The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker, which is on the Nintendo Gamecube. I myself was a skeptic, when I saw the graphics I was outraged that Nintendo had made it that way. But when I bought the game and played it for a little while my thoughts quickly changed. I started to notice how clean everything was, how the fighting looked and how well your environment interacted with you. The animation in this game is really something to behold. There's also a very interesting storyline that will definately keep you hooked for months. While the game is a little shorter than previous ones, taking only around 30 or 45 hours to beat, depending on whether or not you do the side quests, which there are a lot of, this game is still amazing to play or just watch. Whether or not this is the best Zelda game ever made...I don't think so, but with previous titles like Ocarina Of Time of A Link To The Past it's a little hard to top. However, this game still kicks a lot of a**.
