Physical

Age: 17
Birthday: March 13
Ethnicity: Hawaiian/Filipino-American
Blood Line: Muggleborn
Description of Physical Appearance: At 5' 6" and 120 lbs, Moana is about medium height and weight. Built like her mother, Moana is slender but well tones because of hula and surfing. Her delicate-looking, long fingered hands she gets from her father's side of the family, as well as her oval face and graceful neck. Tanned a light bronze from not only her heritage, but also from long hours in the sun, Moana's complexion is only marred by the occasional bout of acne. Her long, straight, coal black hair she leaves unbound, allowing it to fall in sheets to her waist. But for formal occasions, Moana will pull it up in an elaborate mass of twists and curls. Framed by long lashes, Moana's brown eyes are lively but cautious, though they tend to glaze over when she's daydreaming. Moana clothing style depends on how she's feeling. It ranges from no-nonsense to functional-but-stylish to artsy.
While in her no-nonsense mode, Moana will dress somewhere in between school-girl and business woman, with dress slacks, plaid skirts, collared blouses and heels. Functional but stylish consists of jeans, khakis, t-shirts, tennis shoes or boots. Crazy, is well, crazy. When in an artsy mood, Moana will wear anything from a jean skirt decorated with puff-paints, bright colored silk scarves, ballet-style shoes, to hand-painted t-shirts. But one thing remains the same, no matter what style she's wearing. Moana always wears her necklace. Hung on a silver chain, the light blue aquamarine stone was a gift from her grandmother Belen when she was born; it had belonged to Belen's grandmother and was passed down mother to daughter. But since Belen only had sons, she gave it to her first granddaughter, Moana.

Emotional

Parents and Siblings Names and Ages: Parents: Iolana "Lana" Kalakaua (mother-42) & David "Dave" Patten (father-46)
Siblings: Steven "Steve" Anadar Patten (brother-21); Lahela "Hela" Darline Patten(sister-9)

Family History: Iolana Kalakaua was born to Kailani Kanaka'ole (mother) and Aliimalu Kalakaua (father) on the small island of Lana'i in Hawaii in a small town near Ka'ena Point. Kailani was a stay-at-home mom and Aliimalu was a police officer. They met at a mutual friend's wedding and hit it off quickly. Iolana was the third of five children. Laban, Kekona, Iolana, Adamu, & Mele. Iolana had two loves, books and dancing. After graduating from high school, Iolana joined the state dance troop and moved to the big island of Oahu. Three years after joining the troop, Iolana met David while he was living with his uncle while he found work after completing college.

David Bacunawa Patten was born to Belen Putong Bacunawa (mother) and Samuel Mark Patten in San Jose, California. Belen was the daughter of Filipino immigrants and was raise strongly in her parent's culture. The presence of Samuel's family in the States stretched back to Revolutionary times. Belen went to college and became a secretary at the law firm Samuel was a lawyer at. The two were rather at odds with each other at first, but gradually fell in love. Very gradually. They were married four years after they met. David was the youngest of two children. Julian & David. After graduating high school, David went to college to become and architect. After getting his degree, David went to spend the summer in Hawaii with his mother's brother, who said there were some job opportunities for him there.

David and Iolana ran into each other at a Starbucks Coffee in Honolulu. After apologizing for knocking her bags out of her hands, David offered Iolana lunch. She accepted as she didn't have any lunch plans. Each of them found the other enjoyable company and arranged to meet the next day for breakfast. After a week they started dating, and by the end of the summer David proposed to Iolana. The young couple bought a small house in Waialua. David started on his job and Iolana continued with the dance troop. When she became pregnant with their first child, she quit the troop and stayed home. Steven Anadar was followed four years later by Moana Tinuviel (yes, named after Luthien Tinuviel from Tolkien's books which Iolana loved). Moana was a true Daddy's Girl, but also had a close relationship with her mother. But she was always at odds with Steven. The two siblings had a few mutual interests, including surfing, but they almost never agreed on anything else.

Moana had a relatively normal childhood, because that's what she was, a relatively slightly-smarter-than-normal muggle child. She tested high on her pre-K test and was enrolled in a private school. When Moana was six, Iolana began teaching her daughter hula. Moana took to it like a fish to water. So when Moan was eight, her parents paid for hula lessons. But those didn't work out due to Moana's shy nature. So Iolana continued teaching Moana at home. When she was ten, Moana became interested in surfing, mainly because her brother was. So Uncle Adamu started teaching Moana to surf as well.

Besides being a Daddy's Girl, Moana was also the baby of the family. She enjoyed the attention she received from her parents, as she didn't get much at school, even though the attention she got from her parents only served to drive a wedge between her and Steven. But when Lahela was born, Moana was shocked when her parents began paying more attention to her little sister than to her. Slowly she began to understand how Steven had felt when she herself had been born. Moana and Steven began to have a better relationship, but when Lahela became older, she became Steven's favorite and Moana was shifted to the "tolerated" position.

However, the summer after Moana turned 11, she received a letter that would set her apart from the rest of her siblings forever. As it turned out, Moana was actually a witch. She received her letter to the Pacific Coast School of Magic, or PCSM, which accepted students from the states bordering (or in) the Pacific Ocean. Moana attended PCSM for three years, learning the basics of magic and getting ready to apply to a wizarding high school. But PCSM wasn't only a big step in her magical education, it was also a big step in her personal development.

When Moana entered PCSM, she began to change. Some of the other students had begun to tease her rather viciously, so David decided Moana needed some lessons in self-confidence as well as self-defense. Once a week, for about six months, Moana took karate lessons from one of the professors at the school who happened to be a black belt. As Moana began to be more sure of her ability to protect herself, she started standing up to the kids that were teasing her. The other kids backed down and left her alone. After about six months the karate lessons began interfering with her hula and surfing, so Moana stopped. But the lessons had done their work. As Moana's self-confidence rose, so did her ability to be sociable. She made friends more easily and people were attracted to her sweet and honest nature. But Moana still retained her love for the quiet. She became something of a social butterfly, able to move from one group to another, but staying long. Moana retained her own small circle of friends but was on good standing with most people.

Her final year at PCSM, Moana began reserching the different wizarding high schools available to her. The one that caught her eye was Corbantis Academy. Moana wanted to go to a school that had a high standard when it came to education, and Corbantis had a reputation for just that, plus it was withing her parents' budget. So Moana applied to Corbantis and was accepted.

When Moana entered Corbantis, she really came out of her shell. She'd always done well in her classes, but at Corbantis, she really began to excel. Moana started taking honor courses and discovered her talent for multi-tasking. Corbantis was also when she earned her reputation for being a little "crazy." Realizing her friends could handle it, Moana let a little more of her inner personality show. For the most part, Moana is a sweet, caring person, but a little part of her is completely crazy. Moana keeps that part of her under tight wraps, as she tends to do something either unthoughtful or careless when in "crazy" mode.

Now in her final year at Corbantis, Moana is beginning to consider what sort of college she wants to attend. Her favorite class by far is Care of Magical Creatures, and she certainly has a way with most animals ((she's just an animal person, like Charlie Weasley, no telepathy or snowflakes involved)). And despite her fear of snakes, Moana is extremely interested in dragons, and is considering majoring in dragon handling.

Phobias/Fears: Moana has a severe allergy to bees and will jump a foot anytime something buzzes near her. Even a fly will make her flinch. Another of Moana's concerns is any sort of injury, especially to her arms or legs. She dances hula and surfs, so that's explainable. Moana also has an inexplicable fear of snakes and spiders. A bad thing when one grew up on an island that has some good sized ones.

Hobbies/Interests: Most of Moana's hobbies are linked to two things: hula and surfing. Moana loves swimming and diving, and just about anything else that has to do with water. She also has a very good singing voice (and yes, she does sing in the shower) and has a two octave range from A below middle C. But hula and surfing aren't her only hobbies. Moana is also very competent at protecting herself, even though she only has six months of actual karate lessons under her belt. She likes to practice what little she did learn every day as part of her workouts. Moana is also very interested in dragons and wants to study dragon handling at college.

Good/Bad Habits: Moana's biggest and worst habit is of course daydreaming. She can enter "Moana world" at the drop of a pin. If her thoughts aren't concentrated on something, she will hum snatches of music from different hulas. Moana also has a reputation among her friends of "talking just to hear the sound of her own voice." She'll continue talking about something she's thinking about, even though it's impossible not to know everyone else stopped listening. Moana also has a habit of playing with her hair. If she's bored she run her fingers through it, she'll twirl and twist it, and she'll take it out of what ever "do" she has it in and put it back up.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Moana's greatest strength is probably her ability to adapt and change to fit her situation very quickly. Moana can ascess situations very quickly and can usually determine what needs to be done. Dispite this, Moana isn't a leader. She can give people a push in the right direction and encourage them, but she doesn't like to lead. Moana can also multitask very well. Despite the fact she sometimes can't concentrate on anything, when she's alert and focused, she can divided her attention between three, sometimes four things. However, the whole daydreaming thing is her main weakness, and Moana has gotten in trouble several times because she was daydreaming. Moana's tried to be more conscious of where her mind is, especially since she wants to study dragons, but it's hard stop something that happens almost naturally.

Cognitive

Attitude Toward School and School Work: Moana is one of the rare sort of people that loves school. She loves learning and really cracks the books hard. She'll get her school work done quickly and efficiently, with just enough creativity to earn pretty good grades. Then she'll go kill time with her friends.
How Does He or She Do in Classes: Moana's not exactly one of the top students, but she's certainly above average.

Social

Personality: Like water itself, Moana has many shades and levels to her personality. She can range from positively bubbly to completely turbulent. Most of the time, she appears calm and somewhat detached. Only people who know her well know how rapidly her mind can bounce around as her face maintains a nonchalant expression. An avid daydreamer, Moana tends to loose track of what's going on around her, one reason she can have a vacant or otherwise odd expression, especially if there's nothing to really hold her attention. Only a few things can really hold her attention. Her friends, a good book, class, surfing, and hula are the major ones. Moana has a fantastical imagination, but sometimes gets a little carried away. Close friends describe her as both "crazy & insane" and "someone to pour your heart to." She's a wonderful listener, but can talk pretty well herself.
Moana tends to seem shy or aloof at first, but will talk your ear off once she's warmed up to you. She prefers neither solitude or society (with friends), as she comfortable in both. Only boys she likes can make her loose her usual calm composure and turn her into the giggly teenage girl she really is. A caring an compassionate person, Moana is always willing to listen to her friend's problems, an often her friends moods will reflect in her own. She can adapt and change to fit her situation very quickly, and can multitask very well. There are few things she tries that she doesn't succeed at, eventually. A quick learner, Moana picks up things very easily, and while she acts like she wants to be independent, Moana actually likes having someone there to help her know what to do. She's not really a leader, but more of a motivator.

Past Relationships: Moana has dated on and off during her years at Corbantis, though nothing really serious.

Familiar: Moana's familiar is a peregrin falcon that answers to Bennu (Egyptian for Eagle). It's a big name for a small bird, but Bennu is feircly protective of Moana and seems to think she's a large eagle when Moana is threatened. For this reason, Moana keeps Bennu on a jess whenever she has to take her through the school.

Other: Wand: Koa wood, dragon heartstring, 13 1/3 inches
