Profile for The Next Evolution. (left due to time constraints)
Real Name: Amara Juliana Olivians Aquilla
Alias/Codename: Magma
Character Type: Evo-Cannon
Occupation: Student
Grade Level: Sophomore
Affiliation: New Mutants
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 120 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Dark brown
Appearance: Amara is for a most part, quite pretty. Her dark brown hair is straight and falls to about the middle of her back. She usually wears it down, but will pull it up into a pony tail in warm weather. Framed by long lashes, Amara's eyes are a window straight to her heart. Even though she's able to remain completely expressionless at times, her eyes will always show what she's really feeling. Built on the slim side, Amara is very flexible and agile.
When Amara "fires up" her body takes on a flame-like appearance. Her clothes pretty much disappear and her skin is covered with black and red-orange jagged stripes, and her hair become flames around her face.
Clothing: Quite the preppy dresser, Amara is all about shades. She usually wears a pastel blouse with darker jeans of the same color along with a white jacket and tennis shoes. The white jacket is sort of her signature item. She's hardly ever seen not wearing it. Amara favors pinks mostly, though she also likes lavenders, powder blues and light greens. Despite her appearance when she fires up, orange is not her color at any other time. As a New Mutant, Amara wears the standard blue jumpsuit uniform with gold boots and gloves.
Personality: Amara was the only daughter to the King of Nova Roma, and at times acts like a little princess. She's not used to not knowing mainstream information (like how radios work and how to run a microwave) and she will often cover her lack of understanding with a bitchy "better than thou" attitude. But Amara is truly a very good person. Amara tries to treat everyone the same She gives pretty much everyone the benefit of the doubt, though after about ten times she can be worn a little thin. Patient almost to a fault, Amara does actually have a breaking point and a temper to match her powers. An extremely bad day plus a little PMS is a dangerous mixture. And I mean really bad day. Like the world is going to end sort of bad day.
Despite this, Amara does have a sense of humor as well. While she prefers to keep her nose clean and stay out of trouble, Amara has had her moments of mischief. She's pulled her fair share of innocent pranks, though she tends to be more of the type that gets in trouble by accident. Also, Amara can be completely bull headed when she wants to. And once she does make up her mind about something, there's no way to change it. She's totally into the whole girl-power image, and while she appears to be quite innocent, she stands up for herself and her friends without a second thought.
Current Powers: Amara has geo-thermal powers which allow her to assume an energized form in which she radiates heat and light. She can ignite high temperature flames and molten rock, using herself as a conduit to the ground. Amara is able to project her "magma blasts" by superheating rock or stone and then mentally launching it at her foes Recently Amara found she could sense seismic upheavals and control how lava flows. When Amara is in direct contact with lava though, her powers take a bit boost because then she's completely in her element. She can support herself on a column of lava and has even been able to divert a volcanic eruption away from a village.
Amara is able to direct her "magma blasts" at a pretty good distance. She isn't sure exactly how far she can shoot her "magma blasts" though she estimates it's around 100 to 200 meters. However because her powers are so connected to the earth itself, Amara must be in contact with the ground or some sort of structure that is on the ground to use them. She can't fire up if she's over water or in the air, and if she spends prolonged periods of time out of contact with the ground she'll begin to feel ill and have severe headaches. While this does put a slight damper on her powers, she's still a very formidable foe when touching the ground. And since she's rather hot when she's fired up, it's rather difficult for most to pick her off the ground. Amara is also invulnerable (within no known limit) to heat or flame and from being blinded by intense light.
Potential Powers: Eventually, Amara will be able to cause and direct seismic upheavals of her own, and not just direct lava. She'll eventually be able to cause earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Also, Amara will be able to summon molten rock to the surface as lava or small volcano mounds instead of just using her body as a conduit.
Weapon of Choice: Amara is pretty much her own weapon, though she's really got a thing for blades...
Other Skills: Amara has extensive training in hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship from her childhood in Nova Roma. She is also very knowledgeable on ancient Roman culture, and is very good when it comes to survival techniques in the wild. Amara is bilingual as she speaks Latin as well as English.
Likes: Italian and Greek food, classical and pop music, shopping, hanging with friends, reading
Dislikes: Being off of land for long periods of time, salty food, loud music, too much homework, large bodies of water
Known Family: Senator Lucius Antonius Aquilla of Nova Roma
History: Amara's entire adolescent life was spent on the island of Nova Roma in South America. Completely hidden from the rest of the world, as time and technology moved forward, her homeland did not. Amara is still learning to understand present-day technology like electricity, cars, computers, and the like. For most of her childhood, Amara never suspected that something might be different about her, other than the fact that she was basically a princess. She was raised with her every whim catered to, though she made a conscious effort not to take advantage of this. Amara's father brought her up with the belief that everyone was truly equal, no matter their social station or ethnicity, and Amara took that to heart even as a young child. She saw the way the people loved her father, and she knew it was because he never asked them to do anything he wouldn't do himself and that he treated all the people the same, like equals. ((Because of this it was really difficult for her when the whole anit-mutant movement started. Amara had been under the impression that in America everyone was equal like her father had taught her, so why were mutants any different?))
When Amara was 15, she and some friends were gathering plants out on the slopes of the semi-active volcano that was at the center of Nova Roma. On a dare, Amara climbed to the top of the volcano and stood on the rim. Tossing a rock in, she turned to go, but the rim crumbled underneath her and she fell in. Her friends freaked and half ran to the settlement while half ran to the top of the volcano hoping Amara had somehow stopped her fall. When they finally reached the top, they were in for the shock of their lives. Instead of finding their friend dangling from a ledge or simply gone like they had feared, they found what they thought was a fire demon standing on a pillar of lava. They turned to flee but the fire demon called out to them, saying it was Amara. The fire demon stepped back onto solid ground and indeed turned back into Amara. Her friends still ran though, fearing she'd been possessed.
A few days later, the inhabitants of Nova Roma were in for another shock when a large metal bird landed in a field near the settlement. The metal bird was the X-jet and the people the came out of it asked to see Amara. When Amara had returned to the settlement she'd been locked in her room after the people had heard she was possessed by a fire demon. The Professor insisted that this was not the case and finally convinced Amara's father that Amara was indeed a mutant. Knowing most of his people would not believe the Professor, Senator Aquilla allowed Amara to go with the Professor, so she could learn about her powers and also for her safety. Despite the fact he'd been the one to lock her in her room, Amara parted on good terms with her father.
Amara's first encounter with civilization was a huge shock. Technology completely baffled her though she tried hard to cover it up with a tough attitude, which rubbed some people the wrong way. But after she realized most people didn't care she wasn't quite up-to-date on everything, she managed to get into the swing of American life and really started enjoying being a New Mutant. Amara isn't always sugary nice though. Her short stint as one of the Bayville Sirens helped her develop a more independent out look on life. For the most part Amara spent most of her time going to school, training with the rest of the New Mutants and hanging with her friends.
Occasionally Amara got in some action, like when the mansion went berserk. Amara was the only New Mutant to escape and managed to run into Tabitha and Scott. Amara blasted a tunnel into the cliff under the mansion and the three were able to get inside. They manage to get the rest of the New Mutants out of the mansion, but it's too late to shut off the self-destruct. The survival techniques she learned from life on Nova Roma came in handy the next few days and the students tried to hide from the police.
Amara was glad once everything calmed down, though she was sad to see Jubilee and Rahne go. Even though the news of the mutant "outbreak" had certainly not reached Nova Roma, Amara knew she still couldn't go home. School was a little more difficult to bear after that, especially since Amara was an underclassman. She stayed out of the way of "mutie-haters" as best as possible and tried to keep a positive spin on things. When the professor sent the students on a cruise, Amara welcomed the chance to simply get away. But in the process she discovered one of the setbacks of her powers, that she had to stay in contact with the ground. Luckily she was able to recharge herself on an island, which turned out to be good for the island as she was able to prevent a disastrous volcanic eruption.
In the fight against Apocalypse, Magma was part of the team that faces off against Professor Xavier. At first Magma was a little hesitant to have to fight her teacher, but once she saw he wasn't really the man who had rescued her from Nova Roma, Magma let loose. Working together with Boom-Boom, Multiple, Jean, and Colossus, they managed to put in a good fight. But like most of her team, Magma went down before Apocalypse was finally stopped by Rogue.
Amara is glad the whole Apocalypse thing is over for the time being. She's looking forward to going back to school, and she's excited that Jubilee and Rahne were allowed to come back to the New Mutants.
Sample RP: It was hard sometimes really. Amara had learned to ignore the taunts and threats at school, but despite that, they still stung. What made mutants do different? Just because their genetic make-up was a bit different from most humans didn't make them any less human. Was having mutant powers any different from having a ton of money or being really smart or really strong? After all, some mutants had just that as their power.
Shutting her locked, Amara looked at the outside of its door for a moment, before turning away. She'd come to school this morning to find "Muties Go Away" and "Mutant=Freak" painted on it surface. She'd have to clean it up herself after school as even the janitors didn't want to deal with the mutant students. Sighing lightly, Amara headed to first period, blocking out the insults that rained down on her from either side. People that had once been her friends now sneered and taunted her. It had been much worse when they'd first come back, but even now it still hurt.
And when someone "accidentally" ran into her right in front of her first period class, Amara knew better than to expect them to apologize or help her pick her stuff back up. If she'd been raised differently, Amara figured she wouldn't have any reservations about simply firing up and blasting them all away, but she knew she wouldn't be able to stand herself if she did that now, no matter how much better she'd feel doing it. Plopping down in a desk in the back of the classroom, Amara steeled herself for another day.
Experiance RPing: I've been involved with several RPGs over the past four years, mostly Harry Potter (mainly as Cho Chang and a couple other canon chars, but also several OC), but also a couple X-men Evo (as Jubilee and Wolfsbane) and a Harry Potter/Buffy/X-men crossover (as Jubilee, Cho Chang and an OC).
