| Desiree', the Boa | ||||||||
| Desiree' was purchased from a private individual after a behavioral misunderstanding. Not a fan of fast movement, she was startled by her owners rapid arm movements. She responded by constricting slightly to ensure she wouldn't fall. This behavior was read as a sign of aggression and the snake was put back in her enclosure not to be held again. She is the newest snake to my collection. She is boa constrictor like Dameon, and like Dameon her name too has been changed. Formerly known as Snuggles, she east prekilled rats. Her age is currently an unknown factor, and I'm still fighting to rid her of her mite problem. She is a little over 5 feet in length and weighs about 10 pounds. She is starting to calm down and settle into her new surroundings, but it will take time before I have her fully integrated into my collection. It is my hope that she will flourish well and provid a suitable mate for Dameon. More pictures will be on the way soon...as soon as I can get my subject to cooperate. During the most recent photo session (3/11/03), she nailed me twice before I could sit her down--sinking her teeth into the back of my neck/shoulder and again into the side of my arm. I currently have a large bruise and 3 inch bite mark with roughly 30 pin-point holes just above my elbow. |

| 2003. Here is a picture of Desiree' resting in her halfway tank. She will be given a more lavish enclosure once the mites have been eliminated. | (3/11/2003) This was our first expedition into the yard together. Next time, I'll be sure to bring the "bite block". | |||||||

| You can see from this picture how well the pattern of the boa blends in with the leaf litter to serve as a natural protective mechanism. | ||||||||
| (3/11/03) Here's a beautiful close-up of Little Miss Attitude herself. | ||||||||

| This picture also demonstrates how well the pattern works to make the boa "invisible" to predators. | ||||||||
