Ms. Amanda Madden's 2nd Grade
Brushy Creek Elementary
Taylors, South Carolina

During our Nutrition Unit, we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  After discussing the
foods that the caterpillar had eaten, we decided to
create our own caterpillar - The Very HEALTHY Caterpillar!  Each student was assigned a food and given a yellow circle.  On the circle, the student had
to write the name of the food, draw a picture of it, and list the health benefit for that food.

Next, we attached all of the circles together in the hall to create our Very Healthy Caterpillar.  What
a great way to review the food groups and their benefits for our bodies - and it makes a cute display.

Finally, we created healthy caterpillars to eat.
