S is for Sugar
Pops
We read the book The
Popcorn Book by Tomie DePaola. This is a great book that gives lots and lots of facts
about popcorn. This really fit into our work with non-fiction books. After
reading the book we talked about and
listed all the facts
that we learned about popcorn.
Students in Mrs. Lisk's Class wrote sensory
paragraphs:
Popcorn popping looks like bouncing kangaroos jumping
very high. It smells as good as my dog when she takes a nice clean
bath. It can sound like a huge terrible bomb going off. It feels just
like a huge white puffy cloud. But best of all, it tastes like I am in
heaven.

Popcorn
popping looks like a jumping frog. It smells as good as french
toast in the toaster. It can sound like balloons popping. It feels just
like
snow melting in your hand. But best of all, it tastes like popcorn in
the
microwave.

Students in Mrs. Redus' Class together wrote
a Prepositional Phrase Poem:
Disaster
Popcorn, popcorn, everywhere
Flying, soaring, through the air!
Zipping, zooming, near the cat,
Jumping, leaping, past my hat.
Going, going, down my sock,
Clanking, banging, against the wok.
Crunching, squishing, below my feet,
Landing, sticking, on my meat.
Bouncing, bouncing, in my hair,
Popping, hopping, under my chair.
Charging, racing, across the floor,
Slipping, sliding, out the door.
Never do what I just did,
Don't pop corn without a lid!

Then in
computer class the children in both classes wrote
Acrostic poems while
reinforcing their computer skills.
