The St. Mel�s Young Adults Group is made up of young men & women ages 18 to early 30�s with the deepest love for God and Truth. We all desire to be strong Catholics; learning, teaching, and discussing various issues in the church & community can accomplish this. We hold discussion meetings the second & fourth Sunday of every month, and try to have social events between meetings. The discussions are usually experience-based or faith-based, so no one is criticized for right or wrong answers. It is not a therapy session, but a gathering where we can see different views, which hopefully make our relationship with God closer. Topics for future meetings include the Sacraments, the Mass, The Blessed Mother, Saints, conversion stories, demonology, apparitions, and social issues such as abortion, euthanasia, and capital punishment. Any and all ideas are welcome and encouraged!

The nice thing about this group is that people share as much as they want to. People answer questions as deeply or as superficially as they want to, and most people respect that. Honestly, the people that come to the meetings are some of the nicer people that I know. Basically, we are just a group of 15 or so friends with similar interests and goals who want to discuss and socialize with other young adults in the area.

GOALS:

ATMOSPHERE: We provide a comfortable, non-judgmental, inviting place to learn, socialize, and share ideas.

FAITH: Every month, conduct several discussion meetings to share information and knowledge about the Catholic Church and its teachings as well as principle ideas of other religions. We want to educate and learn from each other about what we do and why we do it, Catholics and non-Catholics.

OUTREACH: Not only do we want to be introduced to other young Catholics in the area, we want to be involved with the entire community through various volunteer work.

SOCIAL: A very important part of growing in our faith is meeting other young adults just like us. We plan group activities a few times a month (movie nights, dinners, or bowling, etc.) to get together and relax away from the pressures everyday life. We try to be involved with young adults group from other parishes in the Sacramento Diocese and we welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.

UNITY: Although we have one coordinator planning meeting times, discussion topics, and events, the St. Mel�s Young Adults Group is a team effort. We encourage each person to either share their knowledge about a subject or feel free to ask questions about what is unclear. Or, you can just listen & take it all in if that�s your preference.
