Basic elements...
If you want to play basketball
you definitely need a ball, and perhaps something to shoot at,
maybe some kind of a basket. Shoes and clothes aren't that
important for you in the beginning, they are just a part of your
image.
If you want to become a better player you have to practice! It's
not enough just to shoot at the basket, you also have to practice
leaping, running and strength. That you can do without a ball.
I strongly suggest that you practice leaping, running and
strength before you really start to play. Improving your basic
skills can change your entire game. But of course you have to
maintain your technique by playing on your own or maybe one on
one with a player at your own level. It's not good for you to
play with players that are much better than you in the beginning.
First you have to find your own rhythm and slowly advance to
higher levels by watching others play. There is no need to rush.
After a while you will find your own style, and it isn't
necessarily a bad thing to play different than others. Maybe you
can find a style that nobody handles to play against, then you
have an advantage.
The most important thing is that you don't give up, but keep on
practicing until you get it right.
There are five basic elements you have to practice at: Running,
leaping, shooting, passing and ball handling. If you practice at
these things regularly, you'll slowly become a better and more
all-round player. You just have to have patient.
