Q:  I have all of these books that I will not need anymore, is there anything I can do with them?
A:  There sure is! If the books are still being used by the campus, the bookstore will take them back and either credit your account, give you a check, or give you cash for the books that are returnable.

Q:  Is the book store open on Saturdays?
A:  To my knowledge, the bookstore is open most Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Q:  I am having a problem and I do not want to bother my advisor with it.  What should I do?
A:  You can talk to your Mentor about the problem.  But your Mentor is not to be used as a go-between.  The Mentor is there to help in any way necessary.  When it comes to problems that affect your schoolwork, you SHOULD contact your advisor and/or the WED office and tell them about it.  You will be surprised at how understanding faculty and staff are when a personal crisis arises.

Q:  What exactly is a Mentor?
A:  A mentor is a helper.  Mentors can offer friendship and support,as well as, pose challenges and sharing critical insights.  My job as a WED Mentor, is too help you through your first year in the WED Program.  I was chosen because I have been in the WED Program for awhile and understand the workings of the program.  I decided to be a Mentor because I wish I had someone there to answer my "silly" little questions!! (Like, where do I go to take the math test? Where is the bookstore? When is the bookstore open? What do I do with all of these books??? Just to mention a few!)

Q:  I have heard some horror stories about writing.  Is this is true?
A:  When I first started considering WED, I was told by a former WED student that I would be turning in 40 page assignments.  This really scared me!! Forty page assignments??? WOW!! Of course, I soon found out, yes there is a lot of writing involved (but I LOVE writing!!) but as of yet, I have not seen an assignment where I had to turn in 40 pages at one time!  Do not let things that you do not know about scare you off.  Ask a faculty or staff member or your Mentor about anything that concerns you about the program.  Do not let misconceptions keep you from fulfilling your dream!!

Q:  I am getting ready to travel to my residency, any suggestions on what to bring?
A:  If you like beautiful scenery - bring a camera and plenty of film!  There is a lot of walking (the campus is fairly large) so bring comfortable shoes and clothes.  Sometimes the library is a little chilly so you may want to bring a light jacket or sweater.  And most importantly, bring a SMILE!! You will be meeting a lot of people and making some new friends!

Q:  I just got home with my books and have looked at my assignments.  I don't think I can do this!
A:  Do NOT underestimate yourself!  You will never know what you can do until you try it!  Send in that first assignment and you will feel a lot better about being in the WED program!  If you are like I am, I expected my first paper to come back with a great big "F" on it, but guess what? I underestimated myself and received an A!! Since then I have been listed on the honor roll at the college.  If I can do it, so can you!!

Q:  I do not understand why I can only take two courses to start with?
A:  This is to help you learn the system of how WED works.  You do NOT want to take so many courses the first semester that you will be overwhelmed with work.  This will put you under a lot of stress and anxiety.  Enjoy the two courses.  Get to know the routine.  Have fun with it!! You will be taking more than enough courses after that first semester!
