I awoke on Sunday morning, June 24, just like any other Sunday, waiting for nine oclock to roll around to check on my cousin, John, who had been taken to the hospital via ambulance the night before. John had been diagnosed with diabetes last year and was on dialysis three times a week. I had spoken to my cousins wife, Carissa, earlier in the week and she said they were waiting on blood work to come back on John to make sure he would not reject the kidney her husband (my cousin) Jim was going to give to John. If the bloodwork would come back o.k. then they were to going to do the transplant in the next two to three months - dependent upon they were both healthy (no colds). I was in the middle of debating whether or not to call Carissa to see how things were going with John and if he was o.k. When I finally decided that I would just wait, to call Carissa, she called me. Donna, she said very quietly, Oh no Carissa, its not good is it? Im just calling to tell you that we lost John at five oclock this morning. I couldnt say anything...my cousin gone at the age of 31.he was nine months older than me...he picked on me in high school our lockers were right next to each other.he talked to my boys about being in 4-H and having cows in the backyard when we lived in town..he was fun loving and nice to everyone that he met............not John. But yes, indeed, my cousin is gone. We lost him to pneumonia. Rest in peace John-John (his nickname)...Ill miss you In loving memory of: Jonathan Paul Chase March 13, 1970June 24, 2001

Happy 4th of July!!
I am sorry I had to end this month's newsletter on a sad note, but John was one of the only cousin's that I was really close to. I don't know if it was because of his age - or because we picked on each other so much! He was a great guy and I'll miss him a lot. I also have to apologize for not getting this done sooner - but you know yourself when you have a semester end right around the corner it is difficult to do things. Plus, Josh is in 4-H again this year and we had to find rabbits three days before the deadline because we lost over 17 this year. Our county fair is in two and half weeks and I think he only has one project done. So what are your plans for the 4th of July??
