This two-story wood frame structure is Second Empire in style. The almost square building has a stone foundation and a mansard roof with dormer windows. Windows are double hung with one-light-over-one and have projecting cornices. The structure is surfaced in shiplap and interior first floor parlors contain original ceiling wallpaper in a stencil-like motif. The porch canopy is supported by square -paneled posts.
A rear porch has been added, and a shallow, gabled school wing has been added to the rear.
The structure relates importantly in size, scale, height and material to the buildings of this streetscape.
The structure is significant as a complete and competent representative of a style uncommon to the city. The building is an important architectural resource and rare remnant of such high design quality for this area. With its fence, it contributes in visual character to Preservation District No. 3 and enhances the neighborhood.
