Description, Alterations, and Related Features:

A vernacular building form reflecting Colonial Revival and Craftsman stylistic influences, this two-story structure is dominated by a steeply pitched gabled roof. The rectangular structure has a stone foundation and is surfaced with wood shingles. Decorative details include cut beam ends with double posts over the recessed entry, and cross beams in the peak of the gable at the eave line. There are two slanted bays on the south facade and one in the facade features a cornice banding that projects from the shingled surface. Large dormers project from the north and south roof elevations.

The southern dormer may be an early addition and the north dormer has extended to the edge of the structure.

A small structure stands at the rear of the property.

Relationship to Surroundings:

Although taller in height than surrounding residences, this structure is compatible in massing and style.

Significance:

The structure is an outstanding example of its style in the city, and it is apparently the only such design in the city. Well designed, dramatically proportioned, and well sited in generous grounds with mature landscape elements, the structure constitutes a resource of high environmental value and architectural significance.
