"How are things between you and Tara?" "About as well as when you stick a penny into an electrical outlet," he leaning back in his seat. "I see," he said studying Logan. "I need the two of you to go-" "Whoa, Professor, if you think I'm goin' on some wild goose chase with that-" "It's not a goose chase, Logan," he said calmly. Logan calmed immediately, sitting back in his chair. "You'll take Tara towards the Canadian-American border, there you'll find a cavern in the mountains and an old building that appears to be abandoned. That is where Magneto is supposedly hiding, I want you and Tara to look into it." Logan appeared to be in a trance, and merely nodded. Xavier continued to hold this control over Logan, and instructed him, "Good, now, you must leave immediately. Go to Tara's room, and tell her all I have told you, and go." Logan nodded and stood to leave the room. Xavier smiled and sighed deeply after Logan left the room, "So much easier to handle this way," he said to himself. Logan knocked loudly on Tara's door. The door opened mysteriously on its own, similar to the old horror movies when the old haunted house's doors opened by themselves. Logan's eyebrow lifted and he peered in cautiously, shrugging the shivers off that had begun traveling down his back. "Yes," came a raspy voice from inside the dark room. He knew it as Tara's. "Pack up, we're leaving," he said flatly, his nostrils flared slightly. "We?" Tara sat up from her place behind the behind the bed. Logan furrowed his brow, "What are you doing behind there?" he asked curiously stepping into the room. Tara gave an irritated look, "Looking for something, now answer MY question. What the hell do you mean we?" "We as in you...and me....are leaving....." he answered smartly. "Wiseass, where the hell are WE going?" "We're investigating some old cabin close to the border, .....what the hell are you looking for?" "Ghost farts, nosey...." she said sarcastically continuing to search. "I dropped something and I thought it might have rolled back here." "Can't you just have it roll out to you instead of having to get under the bed for it?" he asked kneeling down beside her glancing under the bed. "I can't exactly move the damn thing if I don't know where the fuck it is, Logan," she said calmly, still moving things around under the bed. "Well," Logan said helping her move things out from under the bed, "what exactly did you drop?" "My tongue ring," she mumbled. She seemed to be embarrassed about it. Logan heard her but found it amusing she was humiliated by it, "What?" Tara stopped all movement and looked at him with a warning, "My tongue ring," she said again through gritted teeth. Logan smiled at her and gave a throaty chuckle. Tara punched him in the arm and continued her search. He looked at her smiling for a moment then helped her search. He picked up a small bar bell with a dark blue gem on one end. "Is this it?" Tara looked up briefly. She did a double take and then snatched it from him, "Yeah, thanks." She stood up and walked swiftly to the bathroom. "Strange way of showin' gratitude," Logan mumbled and stood, brushing himself off. He followed her to the bathroom and watched her clean off the ring and then put it back in. By the expression on her face, it was anything but painless. "Doesn't that hurt?" Tara finished screwing on the end of the ring and then washed her hands off in the sink. "Doesn't what hurt?" "Piercing your tongue." "Depends." "On what?" "Your definition of pain," she said toweling her hands. Logan shrugged, he had to agree with her on that one. He found himself rubbing his fist. She looked down at his hands, "Didn't mean to make you queasy." She smiled mischievously. "What?... Oh..." Logan smirked at himself, "Whatever, c'mon let's go. I don't want to be out all night." "Too bad, I'd rather be out all night." Logan looked back at her, and she flashed a false smile. He turned back shaking his head. Tara grabbed her back pack and followed him out the door and into the hall. "So what is it exactly that we're 'investigating'?" "Some abandoned cavern in the mountains supposedly Magneto has something to do with." They walked swiftly down the hall. Rogue passed them once and gave a shy smile to Tara. Tara in turn smiled back and pinched her arm softly as she passed her. Logan gave Tara a look and shook his head. "What?" she said innocently. "Nothin'," he answered with exasperation. They entered the garage together, they both instantly spotted Scott's bike. And as if they shared some mental connection, they both grinned. "Whose bike?" Tara asked, her eyes sparkling as they looked upon the shiny metallic surface. "Cyke's," he said as he looked over at her. He smiled mischievously at her. She turned her face to him and lifted an eyebrow. "Who the fuck is that?" "Cyclops," he said laughing out loud. She had the same reaction to it as he did when he first heard the name. "Who in the hell would call themselves 'Cyclops'?!" "Scott Summers, that's who," he said still chuckling to himself. "That dork in the same room with Jean?" Logan laughed hysterically and nodded. Tara watched him in disbelief. "This is a tragedy and you're laughing. We should put him out of his misery with a name like that," she said sarcastically. Logan's composure regained slowly, "His and mine both," he said to himself. Tara had walked to the bike and climbed on to the seat, "Uh oh, someone's got a crush on the Jeanie in a bottle..." "Somethin' like that," he said shortly. "So we takin' the bike?" "What's this we shit pale face?" she said feeling the handle bars. "I've got the keys," Logan said holding them up. He froze in place at that instant, looking at the keys then at her. She kicked her leg back and hopped off of the bike. She walked slowly, skipping and dancing around Logan. She then pulled the keys from his fingers and rattled them in his face. "Not no' mo'," she said and walked back to the bike. Logan growled low in his throat as he was freed from the invisible bonds. This is not his day, he thought to himself. Tara hopped on the bike, put the key in, and revved it up. She turned to Logan who looked distinctly angry, "Don't cry, here," she turned and patted the seat behind her. Logan growled again but walked over nonetheless and climbed onto the bike behind her. As soon as he was on she looked around to the garage door, and mentally forced it open. Logan wrapped his arms around her waist and held tightly to her. "Hang on," Tara warned dangerously and revved the bike up. She then swerved around and sped out the door, closing it behind her. As they exited the gates, Tara looked down at the instrument panel. "Hey, Logan," she called back to him over the sound of the wind and the bike. His voice came out gravelly and low against her ear, causing shivers in the cool weather, "Yeah?" "What's this button do?" She could literally feel the smile creeping over his face when she asked, "I dunno, push it." "I know you know, Logan. What does it do? Pilot ejection seat?" "I don't think so," he said chuckling, Push it," he dared her, Curiosity won her over and she pressed it and the bike tore into hyper speed. Tara gritted her teeth and yelled back to Logan, "I'd kill you, but then we'd both fall off this damn thing!" Logan's hold around her waist tightened and he laughed. "You WOULD find this funny," she called back to him. "Not as funny as I'm going to find it when you hit that tree," she said. "What tree?" she said looking ahead. Sure enough there was a tree in her path. She swerved to avoid it nearly losing control of the bike. She gritted her teeth as she strained to regain control, feeling Logan's arms tighten around her stomach, nearly cutting off her air. She wheezed slightly and elbowed him. "Easy boy." As she slowed up and got the bike back on track, both of them took a deep breath, Logan let up on her. He sighed heavily and said in a low grunt, "That tree." "Shut up, Logan," she said and gradually sped up and continued down the road. Logan couldn't help but think about the long road ahead of them, and her being behind the wheel didn't make him feel too comfortable; he braced himself for the trip from hell.
