He really hated leaving her in New York alone, but he also knew how miserable she was being around her new stepmother. Her name was Ariella, and she was quite a wealthy woman in the Nine Kingdoms. A little snobbish for his tastes, but she was very pleasant most of the times he has visited. Wolf figured Virginia's personal dislike of Ariella wasn't due to the woman's faults. It was more of dedication to her mother's memory. That's one reason they decided to make their life in New York. It gave her a chance to start over and raise their son in a semi normal environment. Wolf thought about his wife and son as he strolled threw the park. He loved them both so much. Remembering back on the day that Lucas was born. Both terrified and excited he stood by Virginia's side the whole time even when she threatened to rip of his tail. That got a few unusual looks from the nurses, but he just stood besides her wishing he could take the pain away. Virginia hadn't taken the entire pregnancy very well and spent three month in bed. So when she started into labor he could tell she was irritated antsy and ready to get it over with. From that moment on they became a real family. Wolf loved watching his son grow up and learn new things. Being one fourth wolf Lucas had inherited some of his dad's wolfie traits. He had a very acute sense of smell, hypnotic vision and of course a wolves appetite. Wolf remembered Lucas's first step and word which was of course cripes. Lucas was the center of their lives and not day went by that Wolf wasn't grateful for him. Lost in thought he almost hadn't noticed the group of people gathered on the path ahead. "Don't touch anything!" One of the many police officers instructed loudly. "This is a potential crime scene!" Wolf stood on his toes to see exactly what the commotion was about. He saw something shiny lying in the path but couldn't quit see what it was. He shrugged and made his way around the crowd eager just to get home. "Who's bike do you think it is?" He heard one officer ask the other quietly. "It's not registered so I'm not sure. Some punk kid probably ripped it of and then took a spill." The other officer replied. Wolf turned suddenly and began to push his way threw the crowd. As he approached the front he saw Virginia's bike twisted lying on the ground. Near laid a small puddle of blood. Fear seized him as he backed away from the crowed making a mad dash toward their apartment. Wolf hadn't noticed how big the Park actually was until that day. Every step seemed to take him further instead of closer to Virginia. By the time he had reached the apartment night had begun to fall and true terror grasp at his heavy chest. On approaching the Ir. apartment door he noticed it unlocked. Slowly he opened the door finding the living room quiet. "Virginia!" he called closing the door behind him. He waited for a moment but no one answered. Wolf made his way toward the bedroom hoping to find her sleeping peacefully. As he peered inside he noticed the bed was made and everything seemed undisturbed. He walked into the room and could smell Virginia. He noticed the blouse lying on the floor, bending to retrieve it. He saw the large blood stain soaked into the collar and sleeve. Wolf held it tightly to his chest staring at the closed bathroom door. He knew Virginia was in there but he couldn't hear her breath or soft heart beats. 'Virginia?" Wolf called out again almost crying. He reached for the handle and slowly turned the knob his hands shaking. As the dim light of the bedroom peered into the dark bathroom Wolf reached over to flip on the switch and the light flickered on. He saw the pink water covered floor and closed his eyes. He could smell her. She was in this room but as he listened beginning to hear her breath, to feel her heart beat, he knew she couldn't be alive. "No, please no" He whispered softly slowly opening his eyes. He turned his head slowly and saw his wife lying naked on the bathroom floor. Wolf's legs felt heavy as he collapsed onto the floor and crawled toward Virginia. She couldn't be dead! "Huff-puff no!" he sobbed reaching for her. Her skin was cool and pale to his soft touch. He pulled the limp Virginia into his lap and cradled her toward his chest howling. He sat angry and terrified. How could he live without his Virginia! He placed a kiss against her closed eyes and lifted her from the floor and carrying her into the bedroom. He struggled to keep her up in his weakening grasp as he laid her gently on the bed. What was he going to do? Who would he call? He turned to ask Virginia subconsciously then the full realization that it was her lying on the bed dead grasp him again. "No! Not my heart!" He howled knocking a lamp onto the floor. He looked away from Virginia and saw the picture of them taken at the hospital when Lucas was born. "A wolf mates for life!" Echoed in his mind as he pictured Virginia alive sitting across from him. Wolf lifted the picture from the dresser running across Virginia's face. Just then Virginia let out a large gasp for air sitting up. Startled Wolf dropped the picture on the floor shattering the glass. "Virginia!" Wolf looked shocked. " How? You weren't! Your alive?" He rushed toward the bed gathering her toward him. Virginia sat quietly and cold trying to figure out what he was talking about. "Of course I'm alive!" She practically screamed. "Wolf you crushing me!" Wolf loosened his grip on her and began to cry more. "When I came in an found you on the floor, naked your heart not beating, I thought..." He trailed off suddenly releasing her. Your heart is still not beating. "What are you talking about!" She grabbed her robe of the closet hook and glared at him. "If you're trying to be funny Wolf now is not a great time! After last night..." "Last night?" He interrupted her. "I saw your bike in the park. What happened?" "It's all kinda fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure I got knocked out!" She walked over to the dresser to retrieve some socks. "I remember dreaming that Mom was there in the park and she told me that Vachon was going to help me!" "Vachon? Who's Vachon?" He asked her confused. "I'm not sure, but anyway there was this light and then Vachon showed up to help me because I was hurt really bad." Virgina said slipping on a sock. "But he turned into a monster instead of a savior. It's funny but it's like I know him!" She laughed pulling on the other sock. Wolf looked at her even more confused. Besides the very important fact that she had no heartbeat, she was also talking about monsters! "Virginia you need to see a doctor now!" Wolf reached over to grab her arm. "I will not I feel fine! See!" She turned around to show him where she had hit her head. "It wasn't that bad. It doesn’t even hurt anymore!" She turned and kissed him on the mouth. Overly grateful that she was still alive Wolf lifted her deepening his kisses passionately. Maybe something has happened to his hearing while he was away. After all women without heartbeats just don't go around kissing their husbands. "Now about that promise!" She smiled playfully. "As I recall Dad still has Lucas for a few more days!" She pushed Wolf back onto the bed untying her robe. Wolf looked up at her naked body wanting to make love to her more than he had ever wanted to before. Seductively she leaned over him discarding the robe beside the bed. Wolf reached up and pulled her hard against him kissing her hungrily. Virginia slid her hands down to his waist to unfasten his pants but was caught by Wolf's own hand tumbling her on to her back. Quickly Wolf pulled of his clothes laying them with Virginia's robe on the floor, then lifted his self over her. Wolf gazed into her eyes filled with desire. He reached down and touched her check finding her skin cool causing him to draw back. "What is it?" Virginia asked touching his face. "You're cold and you look a little pail. Maybe this isn't..." She stilled mouth with her fingers. "I'm fine. I just need someone to warm me up that's all." She pulled him toward her again in a hearty kiss. Wolf forgot his doubts and began to deepen the kisses pulling her closer and closer to him feeling her body pressed firmly against him. He moved to capture one of her breasts in his mouth lavishing kisses across her chest. He felt her buck against him as he nipped at the harden nipple and then captured it fully in his teeth. Virginia moaned softly pulling Wolf even closer to her. Slowly he moved to the other breast repeating the process until she was to wet with anticipation to be ignored. "Now!" She screamed lifting his head and forcing him on his back. Forcefully she straddled him impelling herself on his long hard length. Wolf grabbed at her thighs pulling her deeper nearer. An explosion of heat waved arose between them as she began to more slowly then hungrily rocking faster and faster causing even greater heat within her. Wolf arched and moved caressing he butt and pushing her faster and deeper. Virginia closed her eyes moving rhythmically. A new sensation seized her. She felt hungry and could here Wolf's heart beating wildly. She opened her eyes to reveal their green glow. She began to caress his broad chest while she moved then reached to touch his neck. The musty smell of sweat and desire increased her appetite quickly she moved up to capture his neck in her mouth. Wolf looked up in time to see Virginia's glowing eyes and pushing her away from his neck. Violently she pressed forward with a great strength. Pinning him back down onto the bed barring her fangs. Wolf pushed with all his might throwing Virginia onto the floor. Virginia fell fast backward and hit the wall sliding onto the floor. Wolf leapt out of the bed his full wolf senses at alert. He reached up to reveal a small scratch across his neck. "What are you?" He screamed reaching for his clothes. "I don't know?" She cried pulling her knees to her chest. Tears spilled out of her now normal eyes. "I'm scared Wolf! I can't remember everything that happened." Wolf approached her cautiously. "The man Vachon? You said you know him?" She looked up and nodded unsure. "But he was just a part of my dream!" She stretched rested her weary head against her knees. "I'm not so sure it was a dream." He growled under his breath. "Who ever did this I promise will pay!" With that he handed Virginia her robe and helped her to her feet. What ever had happened he would get to the bottom of it? His Virginia's life depended on it. Vachon pulled a chair up at the Raven grateful to be back home. Images of Virginia and the entire New York events played in his mind as he swallowed the dark red liquid. "Back from escapades in New York I see." LaCroix resonate voice broke his mental block. "I see the city found you well." He added mocking Vachon's obvious frazzled state. "I ran into some trouble, that's all." He pulled at his leather jacket and took another long swallow. LaCroix looked right threw his obvious lie and grinned. "I see." He purred mockingly. "Vachon perhaps you should quit spending so much time with these humans. You're starting to sound so obviously like them." Vachon looked up unmasked just as Nick Knight approached. "Nicholas." LaCroix announced. "To what do we owe the unexpected surprise? Work or pleasure." Nick glared at LaCroix even less entertained than Vachon. "I can see I'm not wanted!" LaCroix teased faultily. "Perhaps it is for the best. You two seem to have a lot in common." With that he strolled away to leaving the two to talk. "What's that about?" Nick asked gesturing toward LaCroix. Vachon looked up breifly then turned his attention back toward his drink. "LaCroix seems to think mortality is catchy around here!" He answered flatly. "Do you think he's right?" Nick asked interested. "I think if you’re here to see me then you have a question or need a favor, right?" "There was a mysterious murder down town a couple of days ago. They found a man with a stake threw his heart." Nick sat down on the seat next to Vachon. "Was he?" Vachon looked up from his drink. "No, I just wanted to know if you've heard anything." "I just got back in town. But if I hear anything I'll let you know." Vachon stared straight-ahead thinking about New York again. "Thanks." Nick answered sarcastically back then turned ready to leave, but instead turned back toward him. "Is something wrong?" He asked faking concern. Vachon glanced side ways then looked straight ahead again. "Do you believe in that fairy tale stuff. Ya know like fairies and dragons kinda things." Nick stared back at him smiling amused. "I know that people once made up stories to scare children into doing what they think is right, and I know that they are things that we can't explain in the world. Why do you ask?" Vachon sat his drink down running his thumb across the side. "I met a girl in New York who believes in that kinda stuff. Let's just say it was her life." He picked up the glass and drained it. "Sounds like an interesting life." Nick humored him. Vachon nodded his head and let his mind slip away to the park. Events of the night replayed in his mind. What ever it was about this woman he wished for nothing but to for get everything that had happened. He watched Nick turn and began to leave. "If I hear anything..." Vachon answered staring ahead. "I know you'll let me know." Nick turned and left the Raven. Vachon sat there for a long time thinking about Virginia. He had left New York to think and returned home with more questions than he had before. Did he really believe in this fairytale stuff? The truth is he didn't believe in vampires either, but I guess he had already proven that wrong. He stood up and left the Raven the night was calling. LaCroix watched him leave intrigued. "Vachon with a sudden interest in fairy stories?" He looked very amused wondering what king of girl could be the source of such worry. Whom ever it was he believed would reveal themselves in due time. For the moment he had more pressing engagements to entertain.
