I am...

When I think of my stronger intellectual abilities, I dont imagine myself taking large test with lots of memorization.  After looking at the specific learning types, I could easily find which category I thought fell into.  I am someone who is called a logical and mathematical learner.  The characteristics of this type of leaner is someone that likes to do experiments, find data, and work with patterns and relationships.  I also think this category fits me because I believe I am logical and capable of using math to work with abstract ideas.  I believe that I certainly have weak areas in learning too.  For example, when it comes to music, I do not have any  rhythm.  I was once in a band and I had a terrible time trying to keep time to the beat.  It was just something I had trouble learning.
After taking the online survey to determine my strong and weak intelligences, I am surprised to see that the results were much different than what I thought they would be.  I thought I was generally a logical person, but this was my lowest scoring area.  In fact, I got a zero for my logical strength.  For my strongest category, I was labeled as someone who has high kinesthetic abilities.  This means that I learn well through touching and feeling things.  I have a strong sense of bodily position and how things are reacting around me.  By touching things, the nerve endings at the end of my muscles help me learn what is happening.  To fully take advantage of my learning abilities in class, I need hands on experiments where I can learn through the sensations of bodily position, movement, temperature and texture. Situations do not arise often where these exact skills are necessary in a class.  However, every once in awhile an activity will arise that needs all these sensations.  For example, have you ever asked Mr. Perrin to explain how molecules move differently in different states of matter.  This idea doesn't sound interesting, except that he uses our bodies to represent the molecules.
Now I can generalize myself accurately.  I am, someone who learns well through touch and feeling.  Also, I am good with bodily position and association.  I know that this is true because there are things that I do that relate to this quite accurately.  For example, I play sports, work with my father as a carpenter, and enjoy throwing clay pots on the wheel.  All these things require acute muscle control, and the ability to understand where ones body is at all times. If you ever doubt that I lack skill in these areas, please feel free to visit my ceramics class or stop by a hockey practice.  You will truely see the high level of kinesthetics that is required for these activities.
