Fluorescence
What is Fluorescence?
Fluorescence is light given off from a material while it is under direct contact from an energy source.  As soon as the energy source is removed from the fluorescent material, the luminescence ceases.  The input energy source can be ultraviolet, visible or infrared.
Uses of Fluorescence:
The most common use of fluorescence is in the screen you are looking at right now.  A electron gun at the back of the screen shoots an electron beam towards the screen. The screen of the computer is coated with phosphors.  As the invisible light hits the phosphors, they glow with the different colors that you see.  As soon as you shut of the computer, the electron gun stops the firing of energy at the screen.  Because there is no longer an energy source, the screen stops glowing.
