They called her "sparkly eyes". Crystal Charlotte, also called C.C. at times by her friends, was always well known for her adorable and radiant looks. Crystal had long flowing blonde hair to go with her pretty face, and a lively, yet sometimes coy smile.
Many people would say that she was blessed with a Christie Brinkley type of look. And her loveable personality possessed a fun form of diversity. At times, Crystal could come across as an affable intellect with a deep personality. But often, most friends and acquaintances really enjoyed that congenial, care-free, but well-mannered "hippie-chick" aura about her.
One major feature, however, stood out the most about Crystal. It was those eyes. Those beautiful gleaming sparkling blue eyes that could almost light up a room. All throughout her high school, junior college, and very early 20-somethings she was noted for this.
Crystal, a rather good student who majored in marketing in junior college, paused in her education after completing her associates degree. She had fallen in love with her boyfriend, Greg, from junior college and soon was married to him. Both decided to take opportunities in the big wide work world and eventually defer the rest of their education on a part-time basis.
Now both had a solid intimate start to their marriage, but after a while the pressures of the busy life began to take its toll. As time rolled on in married life, Crystal also noticed that the familiar shine in her eyes was slowly, but surely beginning to grow dull. Crystal was already starting to go from a "sparkly eyes" look to a "bedroom eyes" look, the latter of which she was not fond of at all.
She began to wonder if it was the result of a certain sense of depression she was experiencing, since that spark of novelty in her intimate life with Greg was starting to wear off. Crystal, understandably started to grow somewhat vain as she faithfully struggled to keep up the prominent lovely appearance she was so accustomed to. Yet she failed to realize that her once perfect 20/15 vision was gradually wearing down. Each semester in her business college, her eyes would struggle to focus at a distance more and more.
Into the third year of her marriage while at business school, Crystal came across one of her favorite former instructors in the college cafeteria. The instructor, named Sylvia, was an executive marketing consultant at a major optical company in the area.
Sylvia moonlighted one night a week as a college instructor. A lovely light skinned African American woman in her mid 40's, Sylvia had a rather youthful but sophisticated look about her and spoke rather eloquently. Sylvia also had well groomed shoulder length hair and regularily would wear a different variety of glasses from a rather stunning collection of eyewear that she had.
While talking with Crystal, Sylvia noticed Crystal's occasional squinting and said, "Have you had your eyes checked recently? I've noticed that you're not only squinting more and more, but you were moving closer and closer to the board as the last semester wore on."
Crystal simply responded with a coy but nervous laugh, "Oh, now you're not trying to sell me your eyewear, are you? I think I'm just going through a lengthy period of common eyestrain. And besides, glasses aren't what I want to get into right now. I'm already struggling to keep all the glamour I can in my life, and the fiery romance in my marriage isn't what it once was. No offense, but some of us aren't the 'gorgeous eyewear type' like you are."
"And be honest with me, Sylvia," Crystal continued "With my look, don't you think glasses will make me look...well, rather old?" But Sylvia emphatically responded, "no, way C.C.! I'll tell you what, if you want to stop by my office this week, I'll personally show you a few pointers on eyewear style. In my office, I've got some of the top frames. So if you really do need glasses, you'll not only have some sexy frames picked out before you get your eye exam, but I'll also guarantee you that the glasses I help you find will help put the spark back into your love life.
I can even help you get a substantial discount on eyewear so that price won't be a substantial barrier. But you must promise me you'll get your eyes checked within two weeks if you come to my office, because I'm also going to share a few secrets in the eyewear industry with you." "Well," said Crystal, "I guess it's worth the visit, especially since I don't have a prescription, anyway. How does Wednesday night sound?"
Crystal showed up at Sylvia's corporate headquarters office Wednesday night after regular business hours, as they agreed upon. As Crystal entered Sylvia's office, Crystal was amazed by all the powerful eyewear ads on the wall. But as Crystal took a seat in front of Sylvia's desk,
Sylvia pulled out a wide variety of some of her companys most prestigious up-to-date eyewear. "Now," said Sylvia, "why don't you try on some of these sample eyeglasses. I'll be glad to advise you if you wish, though I think you ought to choose two or three pairs to go with."
Crystal, who began enjoying trying on the sample glasses, eventually picked out two would-be pairs of glasses that suited the aura of her personality. One pair being a light and elegant oval-like gold wire rimmed frames, and the other being a wide stretch round pair of light semi-rimless frames. Both frames substantially suited the sexy combination of the pretty intellectual, yet "hippie-chick" aspects of her personality.
Sylvia also said that she would give Crystal a good deal on clip-on sunglasses if she were required to buy the glasses. Crystal wrote down the stock numbers on the frames. But it was then, after all selections were made by Crystal, that Sylvia shared a somewhat internal secret about the eyewear industry.
Sylvia said, "Now, amongst the glasses you looked at, there was something very special about not only the frames, but also the lenses--yes, even these demonstration lenses. The frames that I showed you are normally much more expensive than most of the other frames we carry. While the frames themselves are very nice, the eyewear company I work for has a bit of a word-of-mouth secret that we tell only a few special people like you. We don't publicly advertise it, because it's a bit of a, well...sensitive subject.
These frames and lenses have a strong form of subliminal messages in them, saying in tiny messages such as 'I look sexy,' 'I am glamourous,' 'I'm goreous,' and so forth. Our company also has a deal worked in with the framemakers of these frame brands to incorporate these messages into the lenses that go along with the frames. The insiders at our company have labeled these messages as 'subopticas.' It's an idea my father came up with in this company many years ago. The concept really started to take off in the early 1980's.
I was just getting into this business and I was really determined to make the 'suboptica concept' work. And it's been very profitable to our company over the years. People really get drawn to these glasses. Many of them even later come back and tell us that their sex lives with their spouses mysteriously improved immensely after buying these particular glasses. And most of them don't fully realize what they've purchased. The insiders of my company often nickname me 'Sylvia Suboptica.'"
Now came the time for Crystal to set up an appointment for the inevitable eye exam, and to explain her situation to her husband, Greg. Crystal told Greg that she was going in for an eye exam to help alleviate a common eyestrain problem--and that they would probably prescribe eyedrops of vitamins. She added that there could be a remote chance she would need occasional glasses, but probably not.
But when the word "glasses" came out of Crystals mouth, Greg had a sudden rush of excitement that he managed to restrain. That was mainly because Greg secretly had an eyewear fetish since his teenage years that he always tried to suppress. In a way, Greg felt somewhat ashamed of having such a fetish, probably because Greg felt society often put a lot of negative stigmas on wearing glasses.
Therefore, Greg, who did not wear glasses himself, put a heavy emphasis on the practical side of his wife's situation, saying, "it's best to get your eyes examined and take care of any problems now." But just then, Greg coyly added with concealed enthusiasm, "you might end up looking pretty good in glasses. Have you ever thought about it?" "Well," responded Crystal, as she rolled her eyes with an inkling of doubt, "we might just find out next week." Crystal then had her eye eyam scheduled on one of her and Greg's off days from work.
On the day of Crystal's eye exam, she had agreed to let Greg drive her to the optometrists office, which was adjacent to one of Sylvia's eyewear stores at a nearby mall. Crystal, though, arranged for Greg to leave afterwords and come back after a couple of hours after the exam because she could "do a little extra shopping if she didn't end up needing glasses."
The morning of her exam, Crystal had on an elegant but casual white blouse and stylish blue genes. Greg, with hidden enthusiasm, was feeling a rush of excitement about getting Crystal down to the opticians office for her exam. As he reminded her of the time on the clock, she playfully rolled around her tired bedroom-looking eyes with a small smile, as she exclaimed, "Okay, I guess we better get going."
As the optometrist questioned Crystal about the type of visual problems she was having, Crystal emphasized visual fatigue and common eyestrain. She told him she can't focus as "quickly" as she once did, and that objects at night didn't show up very good--although she thought she could see the objects pretty good, nonetheless.
Crystal then added, "Also, my eyes at one time really used to...sparkle! And now they just don't anymore. Perhaps I should be taking more Vitamin C?" After she said that, the doctor then looked into her eyes with the aid of his instruments, and had her look through that "monsterous lens machine" in his office.
As the doctor dropped the many different lenses through the glass of that machine, Crystal was wonderfully astonished at how the letters on the bottom of the eyechart got sharper and sharper. As a result her long and lovely toes curled up tight through the rest of the exam due to her shock and amazement.
"Well, that was quite a joy ride for my eyes," said Crystal, as the exam ended. "So, now what's the verdict?" The doctor then responded by saying, "your eyes look to be healthy." Then the doctor paused as he firmly exclaimed that inevitable "but..."
Just then Crystal's temporarily relaxed toes curled up tightly again and her feet and hands started to perspire as she waited through that seemingly lengthy "but" word from the doctor. Then the doctor continued, "I'm writing out a prescription of -1.75 for both eyes. It means your just a little bit nearsighted, so you will need glasses if you want to see things clearly at a distance.
You might have the option of contacts, but I think you should give the glasses a try to start, because you do appear to have rather sensitive eyes. And as far as the 'sparkle' in your eyes goes, I think you might find that wearing the glasses will give your eyes a more relaxed feeling, and possibly give them a more relaxed look." Though Crystal had an inkling of the doctors verdict beforehand, she was still rather amazed by the difference the corrective lenses had made when she read the eyechart.
After the exam, Crystal quickly entered the optician store and promptly handed the clerk the model numbers of the frames she previously picked out in Sylvia's office. "You decided on frames that fast?" asked the optician. "Well," said Crystal, "I sort of knew what was coming before this exam, so I already looked at frames beforehand." The clerk then had Crystal try the model frames on one more time, and then fit her for the glasses. Crystal then got on the phone and luckily got through to Sylvia.
"Well," said Sylvia, "are you joining the bespectacled ranks?" "Yes" said Crystal. "I just couldn't believe how bad my eyes were. They said it was a -1.75, or something." Sylvia responded by saying, "really, that's not too strong of a prescription, but if you don't know what you aren't seeing, you'll find that the glasses will make quite a drastic difference."
Crystal then admitted she still had some concerns. "I'm still rather nervous about this 'getting glasses thing'" said Crystal, "I guess I get nervous trying new things. For one thing, my feet perspired so much through that whole exam that the straps on my sandals almost slipped right off several times. But I still don't know how Greg is going to REALLY respond to the way I'll look in glasses. He seems supportive, but, well, you know how men are..."
Sylvia quickly interjected, "Okay, I'll tell you what. I'll give you a little moral support tonight. I have tonight off. How about if I come with you to pick up your glasses this evening?" "That'll be great," said Crystal. "Greg's coming back to pick me up in about an hour. I'll just tell him the glasses won't be ready right away. Then, if possible, maybe you could pick me up at my place and take me in to get them?" Sylvia agreed with enthusiasm about the idea.
About an hour later, Greg met Crystal at a bench where they agreed to meet in the mall where the optical store was. "Well, how did it go for you," asked Greg with sincere interest. And as Crystal put on that sincere but diffident smile, she said, "well...it looks like these eyes are going to need a set of 'little windows' in front of them if they're going to function properly from here on out."
Greg then responded with a mild tone of enthusiasm, which was rather surprising to Crystal. Greg exclaimed, "then you are going to be wearing glasses! When will they be ready?" Crystal said, "a little later. I guess they'll phone me when they have them. Even though my prescription is a mild -1.75, there are occasional glitches and delays in these 'same-day' glasses places. We might as well head back home now."
As the afternoon grew closer to evening, Crystal told Greg that her friend Sylvia was going to pick her up and take her someplace for about an hour. Crystal also told Greg to "let her know" if the optician calls about her glasses, as Crystal wasn't letting Greg know that Sylvia was actually taking Crystal down to the optical store to get the glasses right then.
After Sylvia took Crystal into the optical store, Crystal sat in the opticians chair and started feeling anxious again, as her toes once again began to tightly curl inward. Sitting next to Crystal, Sylvia said, "no need to be nervous girl, because here they come."
Just then the optician slid the pair of wire rimmed glasses on Crystal's face. And when Crystal looked through them, her eyes opened up wide as though a bolt of electricity lit them up. "WOW!" she said, as she looked around. "I've never seen this well in years!" Crystal then anxiously looked at herself in the mirror.
"You look fabulous," said Sylvia. Crystal, though trying to keep a modest spirit, also admitted she just loved the way the frames went with her look. Crystal then tryed on the semi-rimless frames, and was almost as equally impressed. She then decided to wear home the golden wire frames. But as she looked at herself a little longer in the mirror, Crystal almost drew tears of joy in her eyes.
"Now what is it," asked Sylvia. Crystal said, "I guess I'm overwhelmed with joy. Because now, as I look at myself, I've noticed the most important thing. It's my eyes. They sparkle again like they've never sparkled before! These suboptica glasses really work." Then added Crystal, "it's like wheee!!!, these are cool. I couldn't have done this without your help. Thank you, Sylvia," said Crystal with a slight giggle. "But now, I just hope Greg likes these as much as I do."
Sylvia calmly, but firmly whispered, "well I'll tell you this. When he sees you, if the way you look in these sexy suboptica glasses doesn't knock his socks off in an instant, then he doesn't have much life in him."
After Sylvia dropped Crystal off at her home, she quietly walked toward the room where Greg was. As Crystal stood in a corridor between the rooms where Greg was standing, Greg noticed that Crystal was standing right there when her pretty feet caught the corner of his eye. Greg then looked up and noticed that Crystal, standing there with an eye-filling smile, was wearing her new glasses. Crystal, continuing to smile, raised up her two fingers, almost hinting the peace symbol with her fingers.
She then said sweetly and softly, "I'm back." As Greg looked at Crystal in her new glasses, he was so overwhelmed with internal excitement that his blood felt as though it had just melted like butter in a microwave oven. "You got your glasses!," Greg exclaimed, "Awesome! I can't believe how awesome and sexy you look." Still trying to maintain his practicality, he then asked, "do you see a lot differently?" Crystal then said with enthusiasm, "Oh, definitely. I see everything so much clearer, especially at night! And my eyes feel so much more peaceful and relaxed. When I put these glasses on, I almost fell right on the floor because I was so overwhelmed," she added with a laugh.
Just then, Greg pointed out another thing he noticed. Said Greg, "One thing I've got to tell you. It's your eyes. Remember how you were so worried about the way your eyes looked. Well, I've got to tell you, it looks like those glasses have given you the sparkle back to your eyes!" "I noticed also," Crystal responded with joy, as they both embraced and then some.
From then on, Crystal realized that in order to keep that sparkle in her eyes, she would have to view the world through "subopticalized glasses." But overall, she found it to be a blessing. In a way, Crystal became almost a little bit too vain to NOT wear her glasses, so she rarely took them off.
As it turned out, Crystal and Greg never seemed to have any major weaknesses in their sex life ever again. This was largely because Greg would always remember seeing that sexy image of Crystal in those "subopticalized glasses." That image burned so sharply into Greg's system that Greg would never lose his sexual motivation toward Crystal ever again.
