| I know that felt slippers aren't quite shoes, but they do cover my whole foot and keep my toes nice and warm, so they're almost shoes, just not waterproof. You will need: Some thick felt (I got a 50cm wide piece from the haberdashery shop in town for 3.50; probably enough for 4 pairs) Foam pad Felting needle Extra wool fibre to decorate (The above came in a kit from ebay) Pattern (see left) Decent scissors 1. Measure the length of the feet you want slippers for. 2. Using paint's scaling function, or a photocopier, scale the pattern so the length of the sole is about 1cm longer than the feet. 3. Cut out 4 soles and 4 uppers. 4. Using your felting needle, felt the uppers together in pairs along the long front seam. 5. Decorate. I used spirals because I can't do anything more artistic, and then the peacock feather effect because I was experimenting, it didn't work and I needed something to cover it up! 6. Felt the uppers together along the back seam. 7. Lightly felt the sole pieces together in pairs to give a thicker sole for your slippers. 8. Felt the upper to the sole at the heel and toe, then work around the rest of the foot. I found that the upper at the inside of the foot was a bit too long, so I had to fold and felt the overlap down. 9. Stick your hand in a check for gaps, refelting where needed. (Remember to take your hand out again before felting again. Felting needles are sharp!) |
