FRIENDSHIP
Being
a good friend and having a
good friend can enrich your days and bring you life-long
satisfaction. But friendships do not just happen.
They have to be created and nurtured.
Building friendship is an art which proves with practice. Here are some
rules for building good friendships.
Make friends a priority. Many of us says,” I’d like to have more friends but I just don’t have time.” However
we all have time for the things we truly want to do. Therefore, we have to make
time and rooms for friends.
It is all right to leave your house a bit messier, the
grass a little taller and skip a favourite television show ,for the sake of
friends. These are a small price to
pay for the pleasures of
friendship.
Stand by your friends during difficult times. This is important. But you
could also do simple things to show that you care - send a
birthday card, drop a line
,make that call, send a bunch of flowers. These small things could make a world
of difference in a friendship.
Learn to be yourself with your friends. Let them know the real you. Do
not pretend to be what you are not. Admit your faults and they appreciate you
better. No one is perfect.
Friends do not have to have the same interests or hobbies. Respect the
differences among people. Do not keep score with your friends. It does not
matter who called or wrote
last. In the art of friendship ,giving is more important
than getting. Alexander Dumas said that friendship
is, ”Forgetting what one gives
and remembering what one receives.”
Laugh with your friends. Laughter can brighten someone’s day and bring
people closer together. Laughter releases tension and gives hope
even in the bad situation.
We need friends. Therefore we must work at keeping them.
