Safety surveys consist of walk through inspections, checklists, and resource management surveys. Safety surveys, when done correctly, should not only identify hazards but should also identify reasons controls fail. Any failures identified during an inspection can be traced to some sort of human error in relationship to a standard. Environmental and material factors should be engineered out through standards. If an unsafe environmental or material condition exists it is because of a human factor deficiency in regard to the standard itself. The Guide to Safety Inspections and Surveys provides Safety Managers with detailed instructions for completing safety inspections. Additionally, the Guide to Safety Inspections and Surveys provides survey checklists. The guide provides checklists for pre-use and periodic safety inspections by users and leaders, walk-through checklists for more detailed inspections, and resource surveys that seek to identify systemic weaknesses within an organization.
