| Spin was born here and I sold her at about 3 mos. of age to a couple who had coonhunted some in their younger days and "planned to get back in it". Unfortunately, they never did and Spin was never hunted while they had her. When I saw how natural Razor and Kate were, I bought Spin back on 6/22/02, at 21 mos. of age, for no other reason than to give her a chance to be a coondog. I showed her a coon the first week I had her and there was a general lack of interest. But she seemed to have alot of fire, a good mouth and outstanding looks. After a week or two of some limited freedom, she was treeing my kids' cats and getting me out of bed in the middle of the night to lead her away. 7/23/02: Spin got on the wood with Ruby and Lizzy, as the picture above shows. 7/29/02: Ruby and Lizzy fired off into a cornfield and Spin messed around by the road. I kind of ignored her, but then she started barking by the road. I went to check her out and she had a kitten coon treed in a sapling no thicker than your thumb and about 7 ft. tall. 8/20/02: Spin has opened some on track with the other dogs. I am concerned about her because she has not continued to tree with other dogs. I tied her back from a tree tonight, to show her that she doesn't get in on the action unless she trees. 8/26/02: She's in heat. 9/11/02: I took Spin, for the first time since she's been in heat, with Starr and Lizzy. Made 4 dumps, 4 trees, looked at 3 coon. Spin treed on all 3 trees where coons were seen. She was a little tentative and didn't tree too good until I got there on the first two trees, but she was treeing when I arrived at the 3rd one. 9/26/02: I took Spin, with Lizzy and Starr. They burned a hot track across the corn, and Spin got on the wood and treed HARD. At least 120 BPM. 10/22/02: Spin treed a housecat and a possum by herself and suckered Lizzy in on another possum. But she also treed very well with Lizzy on 2 coons. 10/27/02: Spin has been to the woods 18 nights with other dogs. Took her the first time by herself tonight. She got gone, struck a track, worked it to the backside of a cornfield and shut up. A few minutes later she came treed and treed good until I got to the tree and then she got off the tree and went a few feet away, as if she didn't want me leashing her. She came back in, I caught her, and she did a good job of treeing. Coon was seen. 12/13/02: I have hunted Spin a few nights by herself. She has treed a coon each night. Tonight, she was turned loose 4 times, all after 10 pm when it was very frosty. She treed 3 times, having a coon once and 2 den trees, and I called her in the last time. She is showing that she can not only run with her head up and find coons that haven't been on the ground, but she can also drop her nose to the ground and work those bad old tracks and get treed right. 3/3/03: Took Spin by herself. She went hunting good, worked a tough track through some busted off trees and treed, had the coon. She still has alot to learn but she is just some hard hunting away from being a nice coondog. I probably won't update this much anymore, but as always, if you'd like to know more about her, just drop me an email. |
