Tuesday 3/14/00 Our much anticipated custom promotional matches have arrived and they look terrific! They'll be handed out liberally with screening info stamped on the inside. Make sure and get at least a few from us - One to keep and some to give away.
Monday 3/6/00 Last night was the much anticipated cast/crew/donors special sneak preview screening and premiere party - and I hope those of you who were able to make it had a great time. The movie met with a terrific response and I was glad to see some of our supporters I had not previously met. My thanks once again to everyone involved in the project.
Thursday 2/24/00 Alright! Its been awhile - but we've been busy! Although the most we've gotten back from the festivals is a confirmation that they received the movie, I am very optimistic. We should hear from Rochester by mid-March and USA fest in Dallas by mid-April. I have put together a list of fifteen festivals total to apply to through November of 2000.
Stay tuned in, the public premiere will most likely be scheduled by early next week.
I've been having some trouble finding a printer to do promotional matchbooks with a b/w photo on them. Once I do, however, there will be a couple of thousand circulating around Corning and the country.
Sunday 2/6/00 As I write this, the final master copies of The SmoKing are being recorded. These are the professional quality dubs that will be used for screenings and festival entries. The application package goes out to the Rochester International Film Festival tomorrow - wish us luck!
Thursday 2/3/00 If you're one of our gratious supporters, check your mailbox - a certificate and short newsletter are on their way. In other news, we are working to build a list of festivals to enter throughout the year - keep checking the festival update page for more details. Looking to finish the other pages on this site by Saturday - as well as having our application package to the Rochester International Film Festival complete.
While considering where in Corning to hold public screenings of The SmoKing, it would be great to have some input from our potential audience. We are considering a theater at Corning Community College (good point: inexpensive rental/bad point: out of the way for the average person), and the Auditorium at the Corning Glass Museum (good points: great location - everyone knows where it is, state-of-the-art projection facilities/bad point: very expensive). We'd like your input - please email us.
Saturday 1/29/00 Photos are up! Check 'em out. The SmoKing was screened impromptu to a small test audience last night and received rave reviews from all in attendance*
*(there was a large amount of alcohol on hand - but we don't think it was much of a factor in their judgement)
Friday 1/28/00 Keep a look out this weekend for a bunch of still photos taken during this past summer's shooting. They will gradually be appearing on the Production Photos page.
Thursday 1/27/00 The movie poster is finished! Local artist Tom Gardner painted the background (which is also used as the homepage background on this site) and Kevin Gomez from Graphic Solutions in Painted Post completed the graphic compositing just last night. We'll have a couple of large (20"x30") versions on hand at screenings and many smaller (11"x17") versions to send to festivals and to use in town for promotion. Look for one in a store window or on a telephone pole near you. Still looking for a venue for the local premiere.
