Site Updates

The ePods32 site is a work in progress.

2/18/2001 -  Site started today.  I still have a lot of work to do.

2/19/2001 -  Updated the How To section on Opening the ePods to include pictures

2/19/2001 -  Added a bit more information about the ePods32 Upgrade Service

2/20/2001 -  Added information for the surface mount components

2/20/2001 -  Mirrored the site at http://members.home.com/smoke-liberator/ and changed the contact email address.  If this works out I'll eventually drop the Geocities site.

2/22/2001 -  Added How To sections for the memory and DOC recovery modifications.

2/25/2001 -  Added page for Practice Kit

2/25/2001 -  Fixed an error on the Recover-It page.  I stated that you needed the DOC switch hack to restore the original ePods shell.  This is not true.  You just need to restore the ePods System directory to its original state and do an hard reset.  Sorry if this caused any confusion.  Thanks Vince for pointing this out to me.

3/01/2001 -  Added a Want to Buy - For Sale page.  This will be done on an experimental basis.  How long I continue this will depend on how much work it turns out to be for me.

3/03/2001 -  Tweaked the site a bit.  Nothing too interesting.

3/05/2001 -  Added a page for ePods cases.  Added pages for the Upgrade Service.

3/11/2001 -  Added a few more cases to the Protect It! page.  Keep the case ideas coming!

3/17/2001 -  Added a page for the docking base.

3/28/2001 -  Updated the Parts page with a better method for determining the necessary memory chips for the upgrade.  Added a statement that UPS Ground is the default return shipping method unless requested otherwise.

4/01/2001 -  Updated the ePods Original case section and added a Mead Folio difference page.  Also did some general housekeeping to the site.  Hopefully I didn't break anything.

5/27/2001 -  Dropped the For Sale/WTB page.  Added a tidbit about a Moniputer modification in the Other Projects section.

Other Updates

2/18/2001 -  I am still waiting for the results of my shipping test.  I have mailed a set of memory chips to my father to see how they will fare the US Postal Service.  The chips should be delivered on Monday 2/19 or Tuesday 2/20.  If all goes well, I'll be able to ship kits as soon as my Digikey order arrives.

2/19/2001 -  The first trial run of a ePods32 update was put in motion today.  A brave soul has agreed to be the first "guinea pig" of the process.  The actual upgrading of the ePods is pretty easy compared to figuring out the "business aspects" (shipping, payment, liability, etc.) of the transaction.  So far I've received some great advice.  Hopefully, everything will go smoothly on the trial runs.  If so, I will try open this service up to everyone.

2/20/2001 -  The first reports of the shipping test were positive.  The chips seemed to have survived the USPS unharmed.  I still need to drive over and pick up the chips so I can inspect them myself.  So far, so good.  I'm currently having some minor problems with my PayPal account.  I hope to have this resolved by tomorrow.  The capacitors should be here on Thursday and I should be able to start shipping on Friday.

2/22/2001 -  I have rev 1.2 kits ready to go.  Rev 1.1 kits should be ready Friday (or Saturday if Murphy visits again)

2/23/2001 -  Rev 1.1 kits are ready.  My PayPal account is working now.  Everything seems to be in order as far as the kits go.

2/24/2001 -  Lowered the price on the rev 1.2 kits to $18.00.  I have a limited supply of these.  When these are gone, you may be able to use the rev 1.1 kits for the rev 1.2 motherboard.  However, I have not tested this combination yet.  I will try to test this before the rev 1.2 kits are gone.  I will also try to keep the rev 1.1 kits at $20.00 (as long as Crucial is offering free shipping).

3/01/2001 -  I'm still working on the details of the upgrade service.  Life has been hectic lately and I still have some work to do.  I am looking for two more "test cases" to help work out the details.  Contact me if you want to be a guinea pig.

3/03/2001 -  I wanted to have the upgrade service details up today but I didn't meet my own deadline.  Hopefully it will be ready in just a few more days.

3/05/2001 -  I finally got the Upgrade Service pages up.  Hopefully the arrangements are acceptable to most people.  Thank you for your patience while I worked out the details.  Now on to the easier part for me, soldering.

3/19/2001 - The price of the rev 1.1 kits was raised from $20.00 to $21.00 to cover the increased shipping costs from Crucial to me.  Sorry.

4/14/2001 - Crucial raised their prices on the memory modules.  Unfortunately, I have to do the same for the kits & service.  I am doing this as a hobby and my margin is very small.  I have to either track current memory prices or sell these at a loss.  If the market prices fall, so will my prices.
