To begin the synthesis of Photochemical Smog, the following conditions must be met:
- production of hydrocarbons (HC's) -- - production of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) -- production of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) -- climatic conditions (presence of sunlight, relatively warm temperature, temperature inversion).
These conditions result in a series of reactions involving free radical mechanisms.
