The
threat that cyberterrorism poses on national security is definitely one that
should be studied carefully, as well as the pros and cons of cyberwarfare.
Wayne Madsen, a former Navy intelligence and NSD computer security
expert, said:
This is just like the invention of the
atom bomb, at first, scientists and others said
atomic
power had great potential for benefiting mankind.
Then the military got hold
of it, and we had a nuclear arms race
instead” (qtd. in Greider 55).
If
we’re not careful, the development of cyberterrorism could get out of hand and
the “cybersword” could be unsheathed without any reserves.
