Real Name: Kurt Wagner
Code Name: Nightcrawler
Mutant Abilities: Teleportation, agility, and prehensile tail
Age: 16
Group Affiliation: X-men (Main team)

Personality: Fun loving and care free, but is secretly self conscious of his demon-like looks. Kurt is often the comic relief and tries to be quite the charmer. He is the most human of the X-men. Despite his demonic exterior he tries to see the good in people and is often swayed to help those in need, even if said person isnt one of the good guys (see The Toad, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). He loves his german foster parents but wishes that he could be closer to his real family (Mystique, his mother and Rogue, his foster sister). Rogues tough exterior makes it hard for him to be there for her, but he still makes the attempt. As for Mystique, she has only shown interest in him once (see Shadowed Past), but after her attempts of talking to him were thwarted she has stopped trying to form ties with him. It is unknown whether or not it is because she feels guilty for letting Magneto conduct experiments on him, or simply because he isnt useful in any of her plans. In the final episode, Ascension part II, she does seem to show regret for her past actions to both Kurt and Rogue, but before she can explain herself Kurt cuts her off and ceases trying to form ties with her.

History:

Season I
In the X-Men: Evolution universe Kurt was born looking normal. Soon after his birth Mystique (possibly) allowed Magneto to do experiments on him in order to try and trigger his mutant gene before puberty. It worked, but it backfired and made him grow fur and a tail. Mystique was infuriated and ran from Magneto only to accidentally drop Kurt over a waterfall when wolves chased her (the wolves were bizarre considering after she dropped him they just stood there and didnt attack). Kurt luckily survived the fall and floated downstream to an area where he was discovered by a German couple. Mystique witnessed him being found and left him with the couple, presumably thinking that he'd live a better life with them, and possibly because she felt guilty because of his appearance. When Kurt got older, Xavier contacted him and he came to the Institute. At the Institute he was given his Image Inducer (also called a HoloWatch) which projects a hologram over him and gives him the appearance of a regular teenager. The only problem being that underneath the hologram he still looks like himself and its entirely possible for someone to see Kurts tail (if its not kept close to his body, see episode Middleverse) and feel his furry hands. He only has three fingers so, the hologram Kurts first and middle finger and his ring and pinky fingers move as units. At the beginning of the series he seemed to have a crush on Kitty Pryde who, after a little convincing began to warm up to him, but strictly on the friend level (shes not big on facial hair). The two play off each other dynamically and are quite the mischievous pair (in the earlier comic books, after a tragedy at the manor the two go off to England and form another mutant team called Excaliber).

Season II
Eventually his infatuation with Kitty seems to dwindle and he becomes romantically involved with Tabitha Smith a.k.a. BoomBoom (in the comics she went by Meltdown). Their romance only lasted for one episode (see Bada Bing Bada Boom) because Tabitha felt that she wasnt suited for the X-Men and left the organization for the Brotherhood. She does help the X-Men out time to time after that, but any feelings he has or had for her seem to be gone. In the middle of season two for seemingly no reason at all he tried to strike up his feelings for Kitty again (see On Angels Wings) by trying to get her to kiss him under the mistletoe. Most likely he was just fooling around to tease her, but his teasing ended quickly when he got a mouthful of Iceman instead. Eventually he does find love in the form of a human girl named Amanda Sefton (who in the comics was a sorceress called Daytripper, who was also his foster sisterew) The Amanda in the universe isnt his foster sister though in any way shape or form (yay!) Shes the first human at Bayville to know about what he really is and accepts him with open arms (actually shes even attracted to him more because of his mutation). During the same episode that he becomes romantically involved with Amanda (see episode Shadow Dance) he also finds out that when he teleports he actually passes through another dimension. He finds this out by using a device made by Forge (who he met in season I the episode Middleverse). Visiting the other dimension freaked Kurt out so much he almost gave up teleporting completely, but when he found himself and Amanda in danger he brought himself to teleport away despite his fears.

Season III
At the end of season II the world found out about mutants, the only thing was that no one knew that Kurt was the blue furry mutant that was in the papers. Because he wasnt recognized as a mutant immediately he was able to pretend for just a few more days that he was normal. He was willing to do anything to pretend he was normal, even if it meant no standing by his friends. He felt bad for ditching them, but they never knew what it was like to grow up blue and furry. While it wasnt an excuse to not stand by them, he couldnt bring himself to be exposed as a mutant. Eventually he saw a couple in trouble and sacrificed his normalcy to teleport them out of a life threatening situation. While he wasnt ready to dazzle them with the real him he made a huge step by just revealing himself. Later in the season he meets Amandas parents, but things go haywire when he inadvertently destroys the Seftons living room when he has a fight with Toad whose trying to steal his holowatch in order to impress Wanda. Kurt is exposed to her parents in his full on furry blue self and they reject him telling their daughter that shes not allowed to see him (though were never told if its because he destroyed their house or because hes a mutant). Amanda on the other hand refuses to give up on the relationship and tells him that she doesnt care what her parents think. Also in Season III Kurt finds out that Rogue is his adoptive sister (which was foreshadowed in Mutant Crush and then revealed in Self Possessed) He seems very eager to accept her as his family, probably because neither one of them really has one and hes already been rejected by Mystique. Rogue on the other hand just wants to forget everything that has anything to do with Mystique because shes had so much mental anguish caused by the shape shifter. Eventually Rogue does seem to more or less accept their ties to each other. (see Under Lock and Key)

Season VI
Rogue and Kurts relationship really explodes when Mystique is turned to stone. Kurt wants to keep her in the manor, sure that somehow she can be revived. Rogue on the other hand just wants her gone, stone or no stone Mystique used her for the last time. When Mystique was given to the Brotherhood he brings her back to the manor and spends time talking to her. Rogue discovers this and tells him that he has to get rid of it. Kurt still hasnt given up on his mother and tries to get Agatha Harkness (the witch that trained Wanda) to bring Mystique back. Only Agatha reveals that the only one that can help Mystique is Rogue. All Rogue had to do was absorb the stone mutation, but instead Rogue became infuriated and push Mystiques statue off a cliff (see episode Impact). (No one is completely sure if Mystique was still in the stone and reformed later, or if she was taken by Apocalypse at an earlier time). Kurt was pushed to the edge of despair and didnt forgive Rogue for a while. He did end up forgiving her later when she was kidnapped by the Acolyte Gambit, because he went all the way to Louisiana to bring Rogue back. After that the two seemed to have a really strong bond. Right before the series finale Kurt and Kitty have an episode for themselves when Kitty meets a mutant named Daniel Moonstar (called Mirage in the comics, see episode Ghost of a Chance). When Kitty wakes up one morning and everyone acts like she was dreaming, Kurt is the only one that is willing to believe her. He believes her despite the fact that hes never heard of the girl, when they find out about the girl shes been missing for 2 years and the fact that Kitty starts talking into a telephone thats wires have been cut. Through it all he stands by her and in the end finds out that the girl is not only real, but needed help. In the series finale Kurt is apart of the main team that attacks the Sphinx (which is also where Mystique is stationed). Hes only on camera for a very short amount of time because hes told to scout ahead and when he does hes knocked out (we assume it was by Apocalypse, see episode Ascension part I). After the main events happen hes seen being helped back to the jet by Rogue. He seems really proud of her for overcoming her anger and saving the world. Before they make it back to the jet theyre stopped by Mystique who wants to explain her actions (playing the Im a caring mother card). Before she can say anything Kurt cuts her off saying You dont even believe your lies anymore. Kurt and Rogue are seen walking off together.

The Comic Universes
In the comics Kurt was slightly different. For one, he was born blue and fuzzy (Magneto didnt experiment on him) and number two Mystique didnt accidentally drop him over a waterfall, she threw him over the waterfall, on purpose. A gypsy couple found him. When he got a little older Kurt joined a circus. He was accepted there more or less fine because the people watching thought that he was wearing a costume. In the comics he also studied to become a catholic priest but he was interupted because of a crisis. He's still the most religious of the X-men. Even though he wears the holowatch throughout the Evolution series, when he gets older (in the comics) he abandons the watch because (according to Wikipedia) "After losing a bet with his friend Wolverine, however, Nightcrawler was made to walk through town in his normal form for all to see. To his shock the reaction of the average person on the street was simply one of startled interest. He was even able to sneak a kiss from a surprised but unafraid woman. Kurt was, eventually, attacked by a carload of anti-mutant bigots but he prevented Wolverine from tearing them to shreds, preferring to be merciful to the ignorant. The entire experience emboldened him, and he has since largely forsaken the use of this device, using it only when absolutely necessary."

In a different comic book universe called Exiles he had a child called Nocturne with Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch.

Personal View
smm Kurt is my favorite character (duh). The joker who never tries to be down, but is sometimes really bothered by his looks. While he likes himself, hes still self conscious from time to time. The issues and interactions between himself and Mystique are so moving, its so hard to watch him want to be loved by this woman that is too crazy to love anyone but herself. The only thing I dont like about the X-Men: Evolution Nightcrawler is that because of censorship they couldnt make him religious. I felt that even though they did do a really good job of displaying his character I feel like hes missing a large piece of himself by not being able to be even slightly religious. I would have really liked to see him turn to God when Mystique was smashed. Overall, my favorite thing about Kurt is that no matter how many times humanity has turned their back on him, he still believes that theres good in the world.
