Real Name: Katherine Kitty Pryde
Code Name: Shadowcat
Mutant Abilities: intangibility
Age: 16
Group Affiliation: X-men (Main team)

Personality: Fun loving and sweet, Kitty is the girl next door. In the first couple of seasons she came off a lot like a valley girl, but in later seasons she starts to lose a few of the likes and actually gets a little serious. While sometimes she comes off as ditzy, shes actually really good with computers and electronics. Despite the fact that shes usually friendly, shes never a doormat and shell stand up for herself and others when it comes right down to it.

History:

Season I
During the first season Kitty discovered she had mutant powers after she phased through her bed one night during a nightmare. Her parents didnt want to face the facts that something was wrong, but Kitty knew she was different (and she wasnt happy about it). At school she was being bullied and after getting shut in her locker (and phasing her way out) she meets Lance Alvers, another mutant that can cause earthquakes. He scares her at first because she still at that point didnt want to admit she was different. Jean tries to talk to her, but doesnt say quite the right thing and ends up scaring Kitty off. Lance tries to make advances on her again, but shes not willing to take his crap. Eventually, he does seem sincere in helping her and she agrees to meet him after school to learn how to take control of her gifts. Unfortunately for Kitty, Lance really wants to use her to break into the schools main office so he can steal test answers. She willingly helps him until she realizes what hes really doing. At this point the Prof and Jean have convinced her parents that ignoring Kittys gifts arent the way to deal with them and her parents, the Prof and Jean try to convince Kitty to come back with them and not help Lance anymore. Kitty soon realizes that the person she wants to be isnt the kind of person that would go with someone like Lance, so she phases herself away from him and helps save her family after Lance almost crushes everyone.
When she first came to institute the actual act of being an X-man was a little weird for her to accept. She often thought of their training sessions and demonstrations as freaky. Also in the freaky category was Kurt. The whole blue, furry elf look really freaked her out and the fact that he was a teleporter didnt really help his case. Eventually the two bonded and became really good friends. The dynamic duo play off each other really well and are quite the mischievous pair (in the earlier comic books, after a tragedy at the manor the two go off to England and form another mutant team called Excaliber).
When she moved into the institute she became roommates with Rogue. Because of their radically different personalities they can sometimes be at odds with each other, but for the most part they have a fairly good relationship. Kitty seems to know when Rogue needs compassion because of her inability to touch (see Shadowed Past) and when Rogue is simply being whiny (see episode Shadow Dance)
Kitty writes to her family often and while she sometimes feels like the mansion can get kind of crowded she really does enjoy having everyone around to hang out with.

Season II
In Season II Lance is back again, often trying to win Kitty over. Lance genuinely likes her, but first impressions are hard to forgetespecially when they involve you almost killing the parents of the girl you like. Needless to say, Kitty wasnt exactly ready to fall into that trap twice. She does eventually start to give him a second chance when he tries to join the X-men for a short time. While it doesnt work out, she does give him a kiss before he leaves. During the same episode Kitty shows off a real growth in abilities as she phases an entire jet through a plateau. Also during this season she can be seen phasing a jeep through a train. Her and Lances relationship progresses even further in this season when Kitty asks him to the Sadie Hawkins dance.

Season III
Kitty doesnt get much screen time during the third season, but when she did get some screen time she ended her relationship with Lance on the grounds that he was jerk for trying to get mutants banned for public schools. During that same episode (see Mainstream) Kurt was trying to pretend that he wasnt a mutant, which did make Kitty a little frustrated. Even though he acted like a jerk, in the end, she tries to convince him to take off his holowatch and walk around as himself saying why dont you take this thing off and dazzle them with real you to which he responded one step at a time. At the end of the third season she is the one that phases into the underground passage under the Sphinx and opens the doors for everyone else. She also mentions to Kurt that Colossus is just a big softy which is a reference to her relationship with him in the comic universe.

Season VI
In the episode No Good Deed Lance starts to win Kittys affections back a bit when he helps stop a train from exploding (of course the Brotherhood was responsible for the train incident to start withbut thats really beside the point). Also within the same episode Kitty shows the audience how far her powers have grown when she attempts to phase one train through another train. It almost works and had Jean not slowed the train down a little, its possible she could have made it. When Kitty passes out from the exertion, Kurt teleports her away.
In the episode Ghost of a Chance Kitty ends up making friends with a mutant named Danielle Moonstar in a sort of roundabout way when Kitty has a 4-wheeling accident. Kitty hit her head and Danielle telepathically linked with her. When Kitty woke up she thought that Danielle had actually joined the institute and somehow had disappeared. It turned out that it was all a projection into Kittys mind. No one except Kurt believed Kitty (and even he was a little skeptical, but as a true friend he stood by her). Kurt took Kitty to Danielles home only to find out that she was trapped in a crevice somewhere. Kitty ended up saving Danielle in the end, proving to everyone that she wasnt crazy.
In the final episode Lance and his crew come in to save her and her team. This redeems him in her eyes and they seem to be back together at the end of the series (theyre seen walking off together and holding hands during the Profs speech.) Its possible though that their relationship doesnt last because in the flash-forwards theyre working on different teams. (Lance is with Shield)

The Comic Universes
In the comic universe she was the youngest X-men. While on a mission in outer space she befriended a little dragon she named Lockheed (Lockheed is in X-men: Evolution, but only portrayed as a little stuffed dragon on her bed). As mentioned above during the comics she also had a romantic relationship with Colossus. They eventually broke up.
During one point, while on a mission she was injured and became permanently intangible. She was returned to her normal state by Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four.
In the comics there was a large scale battle in which a large amount of the X-men died (except Kitty and Kurt) upset by this Kurt and Kitty went to England and created a team called Excalibur. The X-men were resurrected and Excalibur eventually disbanded.
Kitty went back to the X-men, but then Colossus died and she left only to come back some time later. Then after a few missions she discovered that Colossus was actually alive. Theyve started dating again.
Kitty and Emma Frost are almost always at odds in the comics which sometimes makes it hard for them to work together, but on the bright side for the readers their banter is hilarious.

EXAMPLE:
Emma: This, children, is Kitty Pryde, who apparently feels the need to make a grand entrance.
Kitty: Im sorry. I was busy remembering to put on all my clothes.
Emma: So gushingly glad you could join us.
Astonishing X-men #1

Personal View
smm Kitty is pretty cool in my book. Though in X-Men: Evolution I feel like she comes off a little like a mini water downed version of Jean. She makes mistakes which isnt something you see Jean do often and she speaks her mind instead of trying to make everyone happy like Jean. so I guess shes like a whacked out Jean/Rogue hybrid with less angst. Overall shes an awesome character whos a lot of fun, especially when she gets around Kurt. Together theyre the dynamic duo and it makes for some hilarious and sometimes moving scenes. On the other hand, I dont feel like she got a lot of character development in X-men: Evolution, she really could have used more episodesmore that werent just about her and Lance.
