Man... yesterday was some of the best skiing I've had since I've been out here. That might have something to do with the fact that we've gotten 42 inches of snow in the past 7 days. Hehe! It was cold and snowing, sure. But the backside of the mountain was just awesome. Being a powder fiend, of course, I found myself many times stuck on the side of a slope, waist deep in powder. That didn't last long, though, as my downward momentum carried me through, and I toppled over, eating snow. Yummy Aspen snow. I miss it. But it was certainly an awesome day to end the season on. I'd say I got a solid 30 days in. Kick it. It almost made me want to stay. Almost...
We wanted to leave at daybreak. Unfortunately, it was damn cold and windy. Oh, and there were feet of snow on the ground, and more coming constantly. That damn snow was insistent. I didn't think we'd ever make it out alive. Alas, come noon it was a miracle. The skies closed for a little while, and the sun came out. Just like Annie said it would. We packed the car and headed out. We knew the roads wouldn't be great, but the logic was that if we could just get out of the high mountains, away from Aspen, we'd have a better chance of beating the snow. We knew it might take forever, but we headed to Denver, just so that we wouldn't be snowed in for another week. It was a long and snowy trip. But Rudy held it down. Good car. We decided to take I-70, mostly because I have nothing but hatred in my heart for I-80. Oh, the joys of heading back home. The thought warmed my heart. |
