Prague, Czech Republic
In 1993, when Czechoslovakia ceased to exist, the Czech Republic was formed. Prague became the capital of the new Czech Republic. Prague holds the distinction of being the oldest city in Europe. The Czech Republic will likely join the European Union within the next year. We really wanted to visit before that happened. The city is fantastic and boast a variety of fine architecture. These pictures do not do the city justice.

This ornamental Astronomical Clock in the old town square in Prague was built in 1490.

The church in the background is the Church of Our Lady of Tyn, built in 1385.

This is one of the most famous landmarks in Prague, the Charles Bridge. Its construction was commissioned by Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and began in 1357. It is decorated with a series of bronze statues of Madonna, Jesus, and 12 saints. The Prague castle can be seen in the background to the right.
