Wies (Wieskirche) Church

We stumbled upon this church in the middle of no where on a back road in the Alps. Come to find out, it is a huge site of pilgrimage. On June 14, 1738 a wooden sculpture of Jesus was witnessed to weep real tears. This sculpture was originally housed in a tiny chapel near this church (still standing). It quickly became too small for the hordes of visitors coming to witness the miracle sculpture and this much larger and very beautiful church was built to hold it.  Large numbers of visitors on a pilgrimage can still be seen today.

This large church can be seen for miles standing in the middle of a open field in a valley surrounded by the Alps.
