| Parent's Meeting Minutes-November 25, 2002 7:15 p.m. Call to Order / Welcome / Prayer- Frank M. Opened with a word of prayer, followed by the approval of October 28, 2002 Minutes. We had 20 families represented at the meeting. A thank you to Tom L. for presiding at the last meeting. A Happy Birthday to Frank M. Treasurer's Report-none Roundtable Report-from Marie J.- Popcorn-the district sold $50,000 worth. Roundtable for next month is a Chili Cook Off. The Fall Camporee went well. And its Recharter time. Greenbar Meeting Report (Next Greenbar Mtg. Tues., December 17th from 7 8p.m.)- Ed H. came up and let us knows what the patrols were planning. (I think I got this right) See Greenbar Form for assignments This past greenbar was postponed and done the day of the Eagle Ceremony. Our scouts are not communicating with one another. They do not phone each other for information. We, as parents, need to encourage them to do this. (I heard Brian L. say that the boys had not planned a program in a month, which is why the meetings have been poor.) Congratulations to Geoff Hendrix, Eagle Scout Scott H. stated that parents could be proud of our scouts. They did an excellent job at the Eagle Ceremony. Report on Past Trips / Events Fall Camporee Nov. 8 10- it was a success, great weather, and good atmosphere. Cub Scouts were there. Court of Honor Nov. 11-It was well attended at the American Legion. As this is dues time, only 6 of the boys are not paid up. Presentation of proposed amendments to Troop 7 Bylaws- We have 2 changes to the bylaws presented tonight. After 30 days, these amendments will be voted on. A copy was handed out at the meeting. Those parents not attending will receive a copy in the mail in a few days. Briefly, here are the changes proposed. Change #2.2 Annual registration will be changed from $7 to $10. Marie J. stated that the increase at National Level would be used to do background checks on new leaders. Change 3.2 Instead of -scouts will be required to attend 2 of 3 events-it will be scouts will attend 3 of 5 being Fall Camporee, Klondike, Scout Show, Scout Sunday, & service project TBA. We have discussed this in previous parents meetings. Announcements regarding upcoming trips and events December 5 - 6:00pm Leaders PotLuck working meeting December 7 - Order of the Arrow Winter Banquet-Tom L. said the brochures have been sent out. December 9 - Popcorn Money due December 14 - Hot Chocolate Sales at Smithfield Christmas Parade-Neil C. is in charge and will have sign up sheets soon. Robin L. stated she would like to sell brownies next to use for the Relay for Life. It was voted she could. New Horizons Home for Adults Christmas Caroling-Buddy K. is in charge. Meet at Trinity at 6pm. Will drive in a caravan with the pack. Buddy Will fill out a tour permit, and permission slips will be needed. The Troop will provide a meat tray, and hot chocolate. XMAS SONGS ONLINE December 16 - Troop Christmas Party will be planned by the scouts Leaders mtg. 6:30 p.m.-canceled due to the potluck above. December 17 - Greenbar Meeting (REMEBER PAPER,PENCIL,CALENDAR) January 6 - Recharter Money Due January 4 - Merit Badge University second meeting. January 11 - Rock Gym lock-in-will be near Richmond. Something new & different. Rechartering will be collected by Barbara G. $10 per scout and if desires Boys Life Magazine subscription add $9.00 $10 per leader. A mailing will be sent out to all those not present at the parents meeting. Summer Camp 2003: July 6th - 12th The troop will be attending Camp Shenandoah, which is about 9 miles outside of Staunton. Tom L. will be coordinating this. It will be approximately $180, with those doing high adventure maybe $75-$80 more. It is thought that the high adventure age cut off age will be 13 as of Jan 1. Payments for camp will start in January. We have a reservation. The above information is based on the 2002 leaders guide. The 2003 leaders guide is not printed as of yet. More specific information will be coming. Tom L. will coordinate. Marcia D. will coordinate merit badge sign up Liz M. will coordinate health forms and payments. Merit Badge University-Have 8 scouts participating. The second meeting is Jan. 4 Astronomy / Space Exploration merit badge possibility-? State of the Troop Other- 1. Frank M. received a thank you note from Trinity's Women's Organization thanking the troop for use of our tarp. They also sent us a check for $25. Liz M. to send Thank you for the $25. 2. Marie J. thanked Frank M. for filling in as chaplain at the camporee at the last minute. 3. Marie J. thanked the troop for feeding her at the camporee and providing her a place to sleep (in the trailer) where people could find her, as she is the district representative |
