Due to modest income we voted to keep the profits for the benefit of the troop at large rather than distribute small funds into each working scout's account. Alert given regarding ticks in our area carrying Lyme disease. Donna A. gave precautions and identification of lyme carrying tick bite. Yard Sale -Tom L. will store your castoffs for the next Troop Yard Sale. Ongoing: 1. Tents available for $25 from Brian L. Liz M. knows amount popcorn money each scout has if you wish to purchase a tent with popcorn. 2. Calendar Planning coming in late summer. John H. stressed that our brainstorming as to troop events should be focused more on service projects rather than one-day fun trips. We should get more scout spirit and give back to the community. We should have more emphasis on meetings where the focus is earning merit badges for Eagle rank. 3. Eagle Court of Honor rehearsal for Brad W. will be on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. at TUMC. Check to see if your son has signed up to be in his ceremony!! Summer Camp 2003 report by Tom L. Leader and Parents will meet next MONDAY, JUNE 30 at 7:00 p.m. at TUMC to discuss camp details further! Don't miss this meeting if your son is going to summer camp! Summer Camp notes from tonight's meeting: 1. Tony A will be the Senior Scout on site at camp and Jamie L will be the Assistant Senior Scout on site at camp. 2. Leaders attending camp include: Brian L, Marcia D, Tom L, Kevin B, and Buddy K. 3. During travel to and from camp the convoy will stop for lunch. Each scout should have money with which to buy a fast-food lunch. 4. Scout spending money can be kept by the leaders in a strong box being built by Tom L and Brian L. 5. A couple of separate tote boxes will be carried up. One complete emergency change of clothing for each scout will be in the totes. 6. Rivers are at the 11' mark as of last week; hoping that camp activities are not adversely affected. 7. Ticks will be a problem and each scout must check thoroughly each day and assist each other in checking. 8. Snakes: Eastern Timber Rattlers and Copperheads are moving to higher ground due to flooding. Strong warnings will be given to scouts. 9. COPE (high adventure) campers must take old/throw away clothes and shoes due to the nature of their camp activities. Also need leather gloves; available at True Value for $5. 10. Scouts must have a backpack to put ALL of their gear in. 11. Recommend that if scouts want to take a camera that it be a waterproof disposable type. 12. Tom is urgently seeking someone who can pull the troop trailer. Connie M. and George P. are both planning to drive up to camp. May be some help there. Anyone with trailer pulling capabilities should call Tom L ASAP. 13. Estimated departure from Smithfield to go to Camp is Sunday, July 6 between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Estimated departure from Camp to return to Smfld. is Saturday, July 12 between 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. with about a 4.5 - 5 hour drive (which includes lunch stop). Bylaw Issue: Refer to June 8, 2003 e-mail (see page following minutes for e-mail text). End Result: Issue tabled until after leaders discuss it further and bring it to parents' mtg. in September.
