Parents Meeting Minutes
Monday March 22, 2001

BSA SMITHFIELD TROOP 7 PARENTS' MEETING April 22, 2002

A Reminder that in Troop 7's bylaws one parent of each scout must attend the parents meeting.  We had 15 families represented.

Barbara G., our committee chair, opened the meeting and Frank M gave the prayer.

The March 25 Meeting Minutes were approved as corrected.

Treasurer's Report-Betty Jo H. reported
Beginning Balance- $2275.43
Income of 1751.80, which included: $970 summer camp, $316 dues, $465 scout show
Disbursements of $2255.10 which included $200 for our account at the scout office, $526 Scout show items, $30 adult training, $1350 summer camps, $149.10 Nags Head
Total-$1772.13 available
Tonight money received-$37 T-shirts, $880 summer camp & at the scout show $120.71 was paid in cash for cooking booth food & supplies.

Roundtable Report-Marie J. reported.  The main topic of discussion was the scout show.

Report on Past Trips / Events
1.  Nags Head Campout-no report available
2.  Boy Scout Show- Marie J. stated it was the biggest as yet with 402 campers, 19 units & 22 booths.  Buddy K. stated it was a good time camping.  Brian L.'s hot water heater was a hit.  It was also reported that dining flys do fly.  Buddy K. stated he took lots of pictures and will try to set up a laptop next week so everyone can enjoy them.  Thank you Buddy!
3.  Order of the Arrow induction's-Our troop has elected Jamie L. and Tony A. to the Order of the Arrow.  They were tapped out at the Scout Show.  Marie J. was also tapped out.  Tom L. reports that he and 5 boys will be going to Roanoke the weekend for conclave.

Announcements
1.  It was passed by vote that the Troop 7 trailer may be borrowed by the District Youth for their service project in West Virginia where 4 youth from Trinity, and 1 leader will be going.  Concerns were raised about having the trailer returned to the troop in good condition.  Tom L, Brian L., and Sam W. or other church representative will meet with Ryan M., youth leader, to inspect the trailer before and after the trip.
2.  Sale of beverages at Friday Night Concert Series at Smithfield Times approved by John E. of the Times.  Barbara G. to confirm via letter with him.  Troop leaders will assign patrols to specific dates at the leaders meeting.
3.  Marie J. has  volunteered tonight to coordinate the Boy Scout Drawing project during Olden Days, Saturday, May 25.  She stated however that this would be her last time doing this.  Many thanks to Marie.  Sheila G. volunteered to do the signs.  Scouts will need to wear Class A while working the booth.
4.  Merit Badge sign-ups for Chick are due to Marcia D. They can be handed to her or emailed to her at home or at work.
5.  Physical examination forms are due!  Please note that if a scout has broken a bone or had an illness of 1 week or longer, a new physical will be needed or a signed note from the doctor releasing the child for activity.  You must also resign the form and update height and weight, & anything else that has changed.
6.  Last payment for Camp Chickahominy is due to Neal C. the first meeting in May.
7.  Blue Ridge Summer camp Info-Tom L. will have packets next week for the scouts.  They have a structured schedule that will include white water rafting and caving.  Last payment will be 2 weeks from tonight.  Neil C. will be collecting this money also.  All leaders and scouts must have Class 3 physical.

New Business:
1.  Bylaw review time.
2.      Merit Badge Counselors are still needed
3.      We need drivers for the church van.  To do this you must have your driver's licensee and take it to DMV to get a copy of your driving record.  The driving record will then be turned into the church.  (By the by, the church board then votes to put your name on the list.)  It was voted that the troop would pay the $6 fee for getting a copy of your driving record.  Liz M. will keep a copy of approved drivers to be issued the van key.
